One pre-season publication ranks Jimbo as the 5th best coach in the ACC. Personally, thats probably a little low. He's probably a couple of spots above that, IMO.
But if Jimbo walked into the SEC where would be fall in the coaches pecking order? My personal opinion:
I'd say he would probably fall around 6th or 7th. And thats before UT, Arkansas, or Kentucky make new hires. Although, only UT would likely make a hire that would put them in the top group.
I would like to think that Auburn has higher standards than 6th or 7th. I would like to think Auburn would make a better hire than 6th or 7th in the SEC. Of course I'm not sure what the creed says about 6th or 7th in the SEC so I will have to see if I can find out.
Jeeps. Give it a rest already. We kinda get it. You think Petrino is the only legitimate option and there is no talking about anyone else.
Please when our new coach is hired and his name is not Petrino, don't become shadow and harp endlessly about how Auburn is headed for certain disaster to the point that Auburn wins a national championship and you're calling local radio stations to complain about the punting game.
WE COMING . WAR EAGLE !
So if we add Tuberville (Arkansas or UK) and Petrino (UT) to this list, theoretically of course, our boy Jimbo drops to 8th or 9th in the SEC.
Going to be hard to win many games in the SEC with the 9th best coach in the league.
Jimbo would be 2nd in the SEC if he was at LSU. He had to totally rebuild from within, which is much harder to do than coming in and cleaning house as an outsider. Time to stop loving Spurriers 3-4 loss USC team every year.....
Jimbo has an AU background with Bowden and Saban pedigree. That's about as good as we are going to find.
There's no way to say how Jimbo would rank for many years but definitely do not think Miles and Richt should be ranked so high.
Miles has more talent than all except that other school in the state and seems to mess it up every year.
Richt has the talent and weak schedules year after year and produces nothing.
Muschamp (my choice before we hired Mr. Magoo) still not enough time to access but would do two backflips if he was our coach.
Sumlin looks like the real deal as he had the balls to roll the dice and play a true freshman QB unlike our Mr. Magoo.
I assure you Jimbo is a better coach than Miles or Richt given the same scenarios they are in.
"I've seen some coaches lose with good players. I haven't seen anybody win without them." Rhett Lashlee
JImbo had very little if any rebuilding to do at FSU. Its the freakin' ACC. FSU has every advantage over every program in that league. A good comparision I saw elsewhere is Jimbo is playing with MLB talent in AAA ball and still can't win the league.
He consistently loses to inferior teams on a yearly basis. At least you could count on Tuberville to pull an upset or two along the way.
