Seriously, don't take me too serious.
"Brick by brick, my citizens. Brick by brick"
So, let me get this straight...
- Just about everyone agrees that Chizik is gone.
- Jacobs is making a last minute push to save his own skin. (Nice touch on the memo. That was a PR stroke of genius.)
- McWhorter, a prominent trustee and one that was formerly involved with Jetgate and the failed attempt to hire Petrino in 2003, is backing Jacobs.
- Jacobs, if retained, must now presumably be the one to fire Chizik and hire a new coach.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
A reasonable person might say that it stands to reason that McWhorter still wants Petrino as the next head coach. The question is whether or not a 'horse trade' has occurred behind the scenes. In other words, is McWhorter backing Jacobs in exchange for Jacobs going after Petrino?
If that theory is true, then all the people who wanted Jacobs OUT and Petrino IN suddenly have a dilemma because they can only get one wish and not both. Will they accept Jacobs as AD as long as we hire Petrino as HC? I've already seen several comments in other threads that suggest many people are willing to accept those terms.
It just blows my mind that people see no potential problem with hiring Petrino and leaving Jacobs in charge. You need to let these words sink deeply into your mind. Say them out loud if you have to. I'm sorry, but if you don't think the combination of those two having to work together will not cause us years of problems in the future, well... I don't know what to say other than that is just plain crazy. I see no possible way on earth that situation ends well. Out of all the possible scenarios, that one seems to be second-worst only to Jacobs stays and hires Chan Gailey.
