I am a scholly donor, and also give other money to other parts of the program as well. I have been to many donor parties and our HC seems to always be to busy to be there over the last few years. Granted he gives a funny speech, but he does not answer any questions about anything, doesnt work the room, shake hands or even try to talk to any of the donors, and just looks like he doesnt want to be there. He has always had another engagement to go to. It has fustrated me and others. I have also met a few of the coaching staff and they carry themselves in the same manner.
I run a small business with about 50 employees and I always leave my door open to them. I also interact with our customers as well. My business has been successful in this economy, and I have always claimed that if you have great customer service, you can be successful.
My point is, if our HC doesnt want to interact with people who donate a lot of money, maybe he doesnt have time for his players either. He doesnt seem to be very personable and really shows a lack of interest in Auburn people outside of a tv camera. He still seems to be more talk and less show every year.
I havent seem much to like about our football team over the last two years. He may have a plan, but being a business man and my plan was like his, I would have gone out of business. He gets paid way too much money for the beatings we have taken during his tenure. I will thank him for the title in '10, but he has been a below average coach since then and the team he has produced on the field so far is below average as well. I guess that means you can keep your 3.7 million dollar job as the HC at Auburn, because he would have gotten a pink slip working for any other business.
Let there be no doubt, I am indeed a proud Pop!! War Eagle!!
Rubbing elbows with you and other boosters is not in Chizik's job description.... I have found him to be quite personable and have had quite a few lengthy conversations with him and every member of his staff. Of course, I work his camps in the summer and attend his coaching clinics. As for boosters, ya'll support the program and let him coach. Subscribe to this site and get information.
I am a scholarship donor for 25 years and a suite holder for 9 years, not that it matters. I see Coach Chizik about twice a year, as well as the assistants. I have found them all, for the most part, to be kind, interested and engaging. CGC has stopped and talked to me and my wife in 2 of the last four meetings without being approached. He and the assistants who have been with him here the whole time all seem to "get it" about what is special about Auburn and seem to have a genuine affection for it, not just as the source of nice pay checks.I did not meet the new coaches in August, through no fault of theirs.
I love AU as much as anyone, and I especially love Auburn football. However, I am not a coach and I give for Auburn, not because of any coaches, but because it is Auburn and is a part of me and I am a part of Auburn. I have been treated well by Jay Jacobs, Tim Jackson, Steven Naughton, and many of the TUF staff, all of whom know me and call me by name. Is that not enough for any "big donor"? ( However, that is not how i see myself )
I think CGC is the best coach and man for the job. I see that he is changing the direction of our program, both offensively and defensively, in order to get us back to the top, not just for one year, but to keep us there competitively year in and year out.We have perhaps the most talent on an Auburn team that I have ever seen, but most of it is developmental. There are only 2 seniors on defense and 5 on offense that play a lot,and the majority of our 2 deep are freshman and sophomores. Talent is here and more is coming, but it will have to develop more and mature to once again be the big dogs in the SEC and national pictures. I expect that to happen, and I expect to then stay there year in and out.
All this is to say that, despite not wanting to ever struggle, I think CGC has us on the right course for the long term. I also think he is focused on his players and staff, but has been kind and cordial to us "donors". I also agree with other posters who realize that maybe we avoid some problems by the coaching staff having only casual and maybe even superficial relationships with us. I truly bleed orange and blue, despise our cross state rival, and have nothing for LSU, Ark., or Fla. However, I don't think CGC needs my influence or help in coaching AU football, any more than I need his in running my practice/ businesses.
Chzik is great, always takes time to be available. He spoke directly to me several times. He told me he likes the fans and truly appreciates the donors for their help, but that he a has a problem with you.....he thinks you might be a bit passve agressive.

You donate to a school because you love that school not because it gives you access to important people. If I was trying to turn a program around with young talent and new coaches I would dodge the people who have no idea about coaching yet want to question my every move as well. I don't think i want my head coach at donor parties anyway. Im sure that would look great to the NCAA if our head coach is best friends with donors. Isn't that what got Pat Dye shown the front door? If he was at parties and we were struggling then it would be he isn't spending enough time coaching.
National Championship two years ago, 3 top five recruiting classes and our compliant is he doesn't come to my parties? How many donor parties do you think Saban attends? I only mention him because the media says he is the best. He doesn't play to the crowd he simply coaches his team,
g2au75...Thanks for your take on G MONEY's thread. A member for 15 months and only your second post. I find it curious G MONEY needs to tell everyone he/she donates to AU then expects something in return leaves me to believe he's not for real. Every time I financially support an organization I do it because I believe it to be a good cause and my payback is the knowledge it's the right thing to do and the good feelings I get for doing so.
