In this day of the MNC (Mythical National Championship) Lets look at how many National Championships the Auburn Football program can claim. Would it shock you if I said nine!!!! Now before we get excited Auburn only claims 1957 and 2010 as a official National Championships. The rest are just classified as championship seasons. The reason we don't claim them is that most of them were declared years later. In the early years there was no established National Championship. In 1983, 1993 and 2004 we just got victimized and had our championships declared by someone other than the AP, UPI, or the BCS.
Now, let the record state that many schools count the MNC as a real national championship. Our uat friends claim 13 National Championships. If you look at the data they could be credited with as few as 6. This is tricky business because the NCAA does not establish a College Football National Championship. One thing is for sure, neither Alabama or many other schools would have as many National Championships on their scoreboard if they used the same puritan approach as Auburn.

Personally I think what UA did when they started claiming the championships was genius. My son is a big UA fan (still love him though) and He proudly wears his "13" gear. I would have no problem what so ever with Auburn claiming all the championships they have been awarded. I am not old enough to remember the 58 team, but I would say the 83,93, and 04 teams deserve to be called champions.
Well, give Alabama their 13, after 2004 none of them are valid. I am ready for a plus 1.
I have mixed feelings on it. I like that we take the high road. That being said, we really do have legitimate claims to 1983, 1993 and now 2004 (after the vacation by USC). I personally think we should claim 5.
Who would challenge us? Most major programs claim pre 1950's championships that were not recorded at all. ( we have 8 undefeated years)
I like the fact that we don't inflate our MNC like the dark side When one of the bammers talks about their 14 MNC I always kid them about their funny math.
It's Great to be an Auburn Tiger!!!

Hating uga since 1892.
Im sorry I just don't how people can claim the 93' season? We were on probation fellas.
I think we are counting uat style. They have been on probation for how many years ?? and still are. that takes away at least 2 . It seems like they were on probation under Stallings as well. (They have had more NCAA infractions than any other team in the league).
So you are saying our 2010 NC wasn't valid then?... hmmm
