I can't imagine the negative publicity AU would receive for hiring a coach that a few months ago hired his 25 yr old girlfriend for a job in the AD, then lied to his boss about it and was deservedly disgraced. Besides this, he has left a bitter taste in the mouths of everyone he's worked for, take a look at the records of the schools he coached after he left. They're bad. He's a terrible recruiter and his team's defenses have been non-existent.
He is a heck of a QB coach and playcaller. Besides, do you really trust the people pushing this when you look at their past history of decisions???
Started at the bottom, now we here.....better get used to it.
Can you imagine the negative publicity we are getting now and what it will continue to be if we keep losing. I am almost numb to it now and the media can kiss my a$$. You just told how great of a coach he is in that when he left the other programs they did not win. You think that Arkansas does not have talent and they still cannot win without him. Also look at his win loss record and in your words he done this with bad recruits. Imagine if he had good recruits.
Hire Petrino as OC and QB coach, if he's single by thn he can have all the 25 year olds that will have him.
I was there December 2, 1972.
The team he just left beat the dog snot out of us. We can either hire him or keep our current clown show of coaches and lose to him next year.
You're basically saying "I care nothing for how bad this hire will look. I am desperate and am willing to make a bad situation worse.' Petrino walked into a Louisville program that was 27-10 the 3 years before he got there. the cupboard was well-stocked for him. Miami and VaTech left the Big East a year after he got to Louisville, making his task much easier.
At Arkansas, Mallet fell into his lap and Nutt had recruited fairly well, leaving BP some pretty good talent. Petrino has had mediocre recruiting classes and it would have shown very soon. Look, you're welcome to your opinion and I know I'm not going to change your mind. But the idea that hiring Petrino is the solution to our problems is without basis and there are a LOT of AU people that don't want him. The AU websites cannot be considered a representative sampling of AU opinion.
There are too few of you to stop the swell of support for CBP. You guys can make all the noise you want. You guys can take your ball and go home and promise to disavowal Auburn. But there is not a better coach available. There is not a coach who wants to redeem himself more than CBP. I would just assume that Auburn accept CBP into the family.
You haters will be the first to take credit when Auburn returns to top of the class and you won't have a bit of remorse either.
It's not an either/or proposition. Plus, the team he left is awful, we are just worse. But that is NOT due to a deficit of talent v Arkansas.
You are making a ton of unfounded assumptions. Swell of support? Among internet jocks? Nobody(certainly not I) has said anything about disavowing AU. 'Not a better coach available'. that's certainly open to debate and merely an opinion. And the last statement is just stupid.
ON TO VICTORY - STRIKE UP THE BAND
You actually make some really good points. +1
There is an argument to made against hiring Petrino but the one you're making is a load of BS.
