Sorry, but I thought this was worth sharing.
I don't know much about D. Housel, but he did touch my life, even though I have never met him.
A close friend who works for the Braves asked Dr. Housel to type up a congratulations letter to my wife and I for our wedding day in 2000.
He took the time to type a funny story about our wedding location (Claiming Blue Beard - the castle we were married in - was in fact an Auburn man and that is why he had a blue beard....). He signed and dated it - with a "War Eagle Forever" on it.
This is exactly the kind of class that has turned me into a rabid Auburn fan.
Good as an AD or not - he strengthened my already strong resolve as an Auburn fan
To all of you
WAR EAGLE FOREVER!

David Housel is a good man and an Auburn man
Great story - thanks for sharing.
Alabama delenda est.
I used to work the women's soccer games the food outfit that was doing the concessions for all the sporting events and I was the lucky...or unlucky, guy that got to work in the hot dog truck at the women's soccer games. Long story shot at each and every game I worked David wild come over and attend the games. This was the first year of the soccer complex being built. And every game when he was there David would come over and BUY a hotdog from me. And after the first couple times I tried to comp him the hotdog......to no avail David would always leave $2 on the stand. Ad he would say either pay for the hotdog or keep it as a tip. Tis went on for years. To juxtapose that jay Jacobs would never pay for a thing. And wouldn't even slow down to see if he had to pay or not.
David made a silly mistake in getting caught up in jet gate........but I sure wish he was still our AD.
If you cant be honest....whats the point of being anything?
My Dad is in David's book.
Fearless and True!
Be assured that there is no "Auburn Heart" beating any where than David's. Not a single one. I had the extreme pleasure of not only working with him but to grow into knowing him as a true friend. He is an extremely kind, caring, big-hearted and humble man. I have known few--if any--better or equal. If you care to know or learn anything about Auburn University, call David. From being a youngster growing up around rural Gordo and listening to Auburn games on his grandfather's radio all of the way up to Athletic Director, David's love for AU only grew--and it is still.
Him paying for those hot dogs mentioned above is not surprising. Has--and remains--"David" and no big shot. I feel it was extreme justice when David was named AD. Few of us get to truly live our biggest dream.
