For you on the so-called "Gus Bus", keep in mind that Gus was the coach who recruited the following: Dyer, Frazier, Pike. I could go on but you get the point. He's also the same coach who allowed Dyer to play by a different set of rules. Also, he's 16-10 without Cam Newton as his quarterback...
Gene chizik does not win the 2010 national title with out Gus. Gus would still win the 2010 national title without chizik.
Malzahn is not in my top four or five (realistic) choices, but Frazier in Malzahn's system would be a whole different deal than Frazier in ... this.
TURDS ALL UP IN THIS MUG. /// "2010 Auburn Tigers, my favorite team. Unbeaten in all ways." -- Dan Wetzel, April 4, 2013, 6:29 p.m.
No sir he did not recruit these kids. These are Troopers great picks. He has sucked at recruiting good character since he was at Tenn then at OSU. Trooper and his other little backwards hat wearing d-line coach Pelton are a sorry excuse for a football "coach". Never have liked the hire from day one.
Phillip, as an Auburn fan, a NC is a NC. That thing counts no matter how much of a one hit wonder we were. However, I think it is fair to say that we won this thing even though Chizik is a bad coach. Everything fell into place and he was able to find lightning in a bottle and he did a good job in feeding off of the momentum we got with the Clemson and SC wins that year. I give him credit for coaching above his head that year. Make no mistake though... Cam Newton meant more to that team than any other NC team in my memory. In the two years before Cam and the two years after, we are going to be 24-26 at best. That is astounding and there is no way to spin that. Cam was the difference in making a 7 or 8 win team a 14 win team. It counts and I'll take it. Actually, it's funny to me that Gene freakin Chizik won a NC in the midst of Saban's reign. That's the one strike that is probably going to keep Bama fans from one day loving him more than the bear.
Let's be clear, there's no diminishing Auburn's accomplishment of winning the National Championship just because we had the greatest player in the history of college football. What is to be pointed out is that the coaches were beneficiaries of that great player and that without that great player, perhaps said coaches aren't what they seemed to be. I mean, look, if a coach wins every game with one player, and otherwise has an unremarkable record without him, any reasonable analysis has to ask, was it the coaching or the player? Again, there's not knock on Auburn winning the National Championship with Cam Newton. The knock is on the coaches who were the beneficiaries of that player and the knock is this: they are average in most cases (Gus) and awful in one (Chizik).
As for Mike Dyer playing by a different set of rules, I will tell you that if you don't think Gus was an enabler then you have been misinformed. Ask any player from 2011 how many times Gus would tell Mike not to practice because he needed him to save his legs. Ask any player from 2011 how many times Mike was late to offensive team meetings and what Gus did about it. Every player on the 2011 team is under the impression that Gus was an enabler of Mike. Hell, all you have to do is look at where he ended up after he was suspended from Auburn. Surely you aren't serious that Gus wasn't an enabler.

What did Urban Meyer run into with Florida after Tebow left Gainesville? Besides health problems and his family falling apart .
Dyer was a bad apple yeah, but he wasn't a bad player.
Frazier might have been good under another year of Gus's supervision instead of being thrust into the fire of whatever the hell went on with our OCs Gene Chizik and Scot Loeffler.
Pike screwed up. I don't see how you can point as these incidents and say "Look how bad Gus Malzahn is". One of the benefits I see to hiring him is he might be able to put Frazier's head back together after our current coaching staff made him have a greater fall than Humpty Dumpty.
Thank you Phillip.
If people don't believe Gus would be a good choice for Auburn's next HC that is one thing. But listening to attempts at tarnishing the guy's accomplishments while on the plains by trying to pass off any negative rumors surrounding him as truthful is just plain sad.

16-10 with Chris Todd & Barrett Trotter. Looks pretty good to me.
So who exactly WAS behind our NC run then? Don't say Cam Newton - without Gus he's Terrell Pryor.
Alabama delenda est.
