You do know that he has not won a conference championship since they joined the mighty Southern Conference several years ago. He won 1 regular season title in the prestigious Ohio Valley Conference. But hey, he's an awesome coach. He's a solid coach in a lower than mid-major conference. I have some issues with Pawlowski but he's playing without his #1 starter in Will Kendall. Programs like Auburn cannot do that and be big-time winners. FWIW, I have more issues with Gabe's offense than I do Pawlowski's pitching staff. And both their jobs depend on how their area of responsibilities perform.
Paw is getting his last chance as we speak. Doesn't matter if 10 starters get hurt, this was his last chance. If we have the same typ year as the last two, he is gone regardless of who we hire. This year should be his coming out party, showing the wares of his 5 years hear. If not, he is gone. I believe PM gas said several times that he needs to have a good year or else.
Definitely not his last chance as long as there is a winning record. And injuries will be considered. He's on the verge of having two very highly rated in-state guys come to school and form the nucleus of the best recruiting class I've seen come to Auburn. Axe Pawlowski after this year and they are gone in the draft or to juco for a year. It will set us back 2-3 years unless we can get a top-notch coach in here. I'm not sure a top notch coach wants to play for JJ until JJ is gone.
A winning record means nothing. He better get to a regional.
He is, at best, an avg coach. I'm sick and tired of avg AU baseball. We should be competing for the SEC EVERY F$&@?! year !!!! Garbage.
We should in football before baseball and football hasn't been that way since the 80's. He's won 1 more SEC baseball title than any coach since Paul Nix. Baird made it to Omaha but he was not very good his first few years. A nice stadium does not make up for lack of endowed scholarships, lottery scholarships, and reduced out of state scholarships like others have. Not to mention that when Baird was here, teams like Vandy, Kentucky, and to a large extent Arkansas, uga, and Old Miss were awful in baseball. Now, it's a tough team virtually every weekend and we were .500 back in the 90's most of the time.
None of the data meets your wish. As I said, Auburn has a very poor reputation leadership wise and no great coach is going to come here. We might get an up and comer who may turn out to be worse. I've been close to this program for over 20 years and while there are things I don't like gameday wise, I see enough things better than I've ever seen them to merit some leash for Pawlowski. Sure, his decisions sometimes drive me crazy but I can also step back out of the heat of a game situation and look at the program as a whole. The positives:
1) Kids go to class - important for a team that cannot afford APR problems with scholarship limitations
2) Juniors turning down mediocre draft offers to play as a senior
3) Team chemistry at an all-time high
4) Discipline is marvelous
5) More depth than ever and only going to get better
6) Attendance is very, very good
7) Recruiting better than I have ever seen it
We got through the mess Slater left pitching wise and depth wise with the only SEC regular season title in school history. He's building the depth up to compete. For people that don't understand what we are up against scholarship wise, those folks will never comprehend the entire picture. They only see now and the immediate past. Those same people will be screaming the same things when the next up and comer doesn't win big immediately.
I like how you talk about Paws one SEC title yet forget how that was won. You blamed Gabe earlier in this thread for the offense and said that Paws pitching is great so he should get a pass. Remember that's how we won the SEC. With huge bats that overcame our fielding issues.
PM said he better have a good year!
Coach P isn't getting it done
