Dooky Chase's is very good for authentic Cajun food. A lot of locals like to eat there.
Doubt you can get in, but the hurricanes and burgers at Port O' Call is worth the wait. Whenever I get back to town, that's the first place I head.

BTW, no trip down there isn't complete if you don't eat at Deanie's out by the lake.
Are people really telling this 22 year old not to go to Bourbon Street?
I have only been there 3 times, and I would agree that you should venture out from Bourbon street. However, I would almost guarantee you will have a good time if you at least take a walk around; maybe visit Pat O's; maybe get a hand grenade; maybe a hurricane; maybe listen to some live music; maybe sit at a bar and drink 3 for 1 beers; I could go a long way with this, but I digress.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the restaurants suggested. Have fun!
I apologize, but I grew up there and have spent most of my life in the area. Bourbon Street is fun for someone young and looking for an unforgettable experience, but it's not where I would chill for drinks or eat. The advice I give everyone is if they do go, travel in groups and keep moving. Also, if you are going to drink and hang out on BS, stay towards Canal. The closer you get to Esplanade, the less the chance that hottie is a she. jus sayin
We were just there over New Year's (Gator husband). Someone had referred me to "August" - on the other side of Canal Street. It was excellent. We also love Acme, Brennans, and K-Pauls. Went to Galatoires for the first time as well - enjoyed it.
Camellia Grill now has a location in the quarter - good burger!
Enjoy - and be particular!
Breakfast at Camillia Grille.
Ruby Slipper for breakfast, Gumbo Shop, Nola's
