It's not even a contest. Sure Jordan can play some basketball but that's it. Maybe golf. But he is not even in the realm of the athletic ability of Bo. It's not a contest to see who can market themselves better. On athletic ability, Bo excelled at several different sports as well as being a track star. Sorry but Micheal couldn't hold Bo's jock unless it was on a basketball court or a golf course (I still bet Bo could out drive him).
ESPN is stupid when it comes to this crap. They are always trying to account for a man's marketing of himself as a part of his athletic ability. Just silly....

They don't even have Jim Thorpe in there, and how in the world could Wayne Gretzky ever beat out Carl Lewis?
The Greatest ATHLETE here people. It shouldn't be a popularity contest.
If you cant be honest....whats the point of being anything?
I love me some Bo, but there is more to being a great athlete than having pure athletic talent, which Bo had buckets of.
Say what you will about MJ, but he was the best basketball player of all time and probably the most clutch player in the history of sports.
- Hit the game winning shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship (to beat Ewing and Sleepy Floyd).
- Dunked from the free throw line
- 6 NBA Championships
- 5 MVPs
- 10 All-NBA Honors
- 9 all Defensive 1st Team honors
- 14 All Star Selections
- 3 All Star MVPS
- 10 Scoring Titles
- 3 Stealing Titles
- 6 Finals MVPs
- 1 NBA Defensive Player of the year
- 2 Gold Medals
He also set or still has about a million NBA record.
Had Bo been able to finish out his career he could very well have truly been the most transcendent athlete in the history of sports. But it is very hard to argue that MJ isn't the greatest athlete of all time. Very hard indeed. You can argue others are, but hard to argue with MJ's body of work.

I agree that MJ was and is the best basketball player of All time.
Bo was the best athlete I have ever seen. MJ best basketball player. Bo best at everything he did.
Can MJ throw a rock through a screen door?
Can he catch a wild boar with his bare hands?
Jus messin. But I do truly think if we are talking athlete. Bo wins hands down. MJ would work him out on the basketball court. But Bo would work him out in every other sport they played. And yes if you give Bo 6 weeks and a set of golf clubs and tell him "you are going to play MJ in 6 weeks" he would prolly be amazing at that as well.
Just an opinion.
But theres more to being an athlete than feats of strength and power and speed, of which Bo had a seemingly limitless supply. He could hit a gear running down a sideline that no one else had.
The thing with Bo, and I will actually give ESPN credit for pointing this out in the Doc, is that he was taken from us too soon to really know what he was. It was magic and then he was gone to a freak injury.
MJ did it all, and did it for a long time. If you have five seconds left in an NBA game today and need one shot to win the championship, anyone would rather call Jordan in off the street in his Penny Loafers than any other player in the league today. He was that clutch. How many incredible shots did he hit? Hundreds?
We know what we have with MJ. With Bo, we have to say he could've...

You are correct. And those feats were just messin with ya on that front.
If it were the last 5 seconds of any basketball game FOR SURE Call MJ and dont even give him sneakers...make him do it in socked feet...and he still sets the net on fire.
But if you had a line up that included Bo and MJ and you were picking a team and these two were left...who would you choose for these sports
My answer is Bo is 3 up to MJs 1.
And to me the point of the question was best athlete. Not the best in one sport. Even with Bos tragic sports career ending. He is still the better overall athlete. He is more vesatile and more athletic period. And he can play basketball too.
I think the question you are answering is this " who was the best athlete at their sport" And in that category Bo losses in every sport he played because of his injury. There are thousands of better baseball players. There are better RBs. And MJ without question is the best basketball player ever. So he wins that. And bo doesnt even crack the top five in either sport he played.
Bo MAY have ended up better than them but we will never know.
The list for baseball is soo long that its not even funny. But could he have been on par...Yes. But as you said we will never know.
MJ Period no need to name any others.
But to your question of who do you want with the ball in his hands with 5 seconds to go. MJ in basketball.
But ask yourself this- If you had 2 yards to go to win it all...What RB of all time do you want with the ball in his hands? I would say bo. Explosive, can jump out of the stadium, physical enough.
Greatest vidoe game athlete....TECHMO BO!!!!
Yes and in all that ability on the court, he had less off it. As basketball was the only sport that he was any good at. Sure he was ONE OF the best to play that game, but that doesn't make him the greatest ATHLETE. Just popular....
