With Malzahn as the OC, running HIS offense, the record shows the following:
2007 - #1 nationally in total offense without Cam Newton
2008 - #1 nationally in total offense without Cam Newton
2009 - #16 nationally in total offense without Cam Newton
2010 - #7 nationally in total offense with Cam Newton
Perhaps Pat Dooley didn't check the facts....or perhaps he's just an idiot. I'm guessing the latter.
Since when does anyone who is an Auburn fan give a rip what Pat Dooley says! Or for that matter Aubie who posts crap. Get a life Aubie!

It didn't come off that negative to me...
Speaking of perception, nobody will remember that Auburn's offense was pretty darn good in Malzahn's first season. All they will look at is how it performs without Cam Newton. That's just the way it is."
I think he was being honest, because people are the way they are; they don't look back, they look forward. Malzahn is certainly not under any pressure with the Auburn Family, the pressure would be presumably, the way the rest of the country perceives him. The non-coaching types. The ESPN dudes and the guys at the watercooler.
Keep in mind, these same people want to say that Gus was nothing without #2. They want to be able to point a finger and guffaw. Nobody outside of the Plains seems to remember the night and day difference between the 2008 Auburn offense and the 2009 Auburn offense.
And that's fine with me. I just wanna hang on to him. I know I wasn't the only one worried about him taking the La-Lafayette job after 2009.

I was all set to rip Dooley based on the posts in this thread but then I read what was actually written.. and he's right. All we are going to hear this year are comparisons to Cam. Trotter throws a pick or gets stopped on a third and 6, I'll bet my house we hear something like, "Cam would have run that for a first instead of trying to force it in: or "Cam would have made that 1st." All year, at least once in every game, the announcers will compare this offense to last season. The first time the offense sputters there will be comments about how Cam made the difference. Bottom line, Dooley might be a tooley, but his analysis of what's going to happen is spot on.
