When I was a little girl, my grandparents always came over for Christmas Eve. As soon as my Grandfather entered the door he would say "Christmas Eve Gift". Since he said it first, we all "had" to give him a kiss (like we wouldn't anyway). As we got older, we would race to see who got to the to the door first so we could open it and "get" His Christmas Eve Gift. After my grandfather passed away, my sisters and I carry on the tradition. Before the advent of caller ID, you answered every call on Christmas Eve saying "Christmas Eve Gift" because you knew it was one of your sisters calling. Now with caller ID, it's who breaks down and does the calling first because you knew they were going to get you.
I'm going to change it a little this year and wish all my AUC friends, "Christmas Eve Gift" and instead of you owing ME a kiss, I'm sending one to you. "Schmaaack". XXX and OOOs to each and every one of you. Hope you have a wonderful and safe Christmas!

Thank you for sharing your family's Christmas tradition! Have a great Christmas!
God bless and may all your Christmas' be bright!
All Auburn All the Time!
My family has also done this for as long as I cam remember.
Wow - can't believe there are others that do this, too - and we thought we were the only ones :-D Makes me even more curious now about the origins of the tradition - I've always thought that it was something that had just been passed down through the family. Wonder if it started as a "regional" tradition - my ancestors and your ancestors might have been neighbors!
