Heard Charlie this morning. Know him well and he has always been an excellent evaluator of Auburn. He made some good points that made sense to me, but unfortunately they did not make me feel better about the immediate future of Auburn's football team.
First the offense. He said KF's biggest problem is dealing with reads associated with a pro-style offense and the transition from a spread to a pro style. Bottom line with KF is he is not making the easy reads. Specifically the short sit-down routes, slants, outs etc. that PSU gave Auburn all day with the corners laid back 10 yards.
Second and most concerning the defense. The DL lines up in the same spot every time and never tries to confuse the OL. They are making the blocking very easy because every OC and OL knows who to block. The DB plays back and never attacks the receivers or challenge receivers. He said zone coverage is fine, but the DBs need to press and the LOS and drop back into zone to confuse the QB and receivers. CT said QB's lick their chops when they see zone and DBs ten yards deep.
I sum it up this way. Either KF gets comfortable with the offense or we are domed and CGC has no clue how to play winning defense and we are domed anyway. How can defense be some inept?

I keep thinking to myself.......The MSU game was a bad dream and at some point I will wake-up.
The offense is horrible. If we don't start throwing the ball with accuracy, we are not gonna beat New Mexico State or anyone else for that matter. I mean, it was as bad as I ever remember. So, whatever all these people are saying about Auburn's offense, I would agree.
As for the defense, I don't think it was that bad. Minus the massive amount of short fields and large amounts of time they spent on the field.....We couldn't afford to be overly aggressive. Realistically we have three or four LB that can play SEC football. How can you expect 3 LB to play Iron Man football for 87 snaps or 67 snaps when over half those are dropped back into coverage.
The most startling facts about the game:
Time of possession
Passing yards per game(us and them as well really)
Number of receivers with catches
The fact we have made at least one WR on the opposing team look like a first rounder.
Everything goes back to coaching. Just look at where Arkansas is now without the strong leadership of a head coach. The players and assistant coaches are still pretty much the same (OC changed, but probably for the better.)
I just don't see how things are going to get much better this year. I SURE hope I'm right. Things are never as bad as they seem.

amen for charlie!!! He is exactly right. Yesterday at Titans game , they played just like Au same defense 10 yrds off receivers, LB out of position 4 man front ever time Brady ate the secondary alive. NE played man on man on the line . was hard to run or complete passes. u have to confuse the offensive line every play jump in and out at line of scrimage, makes hard for them to block. We are finally getting some people on here that knows football. I read an article from Paul Rhodes who took over at Iowa st or wherever Chizik came from. it wasn't very good news for Auburn people
Sounds like Trotman should be our head coach. He seems to have more of a clue than the current staff.
