Every time Charles gets on National TV, you have to hold your breath . Never know what he is going to say and if AU is going to have to run damage duty afterwards. Tonight though what he said about the "one and done" in college basketball was excellent. Obviously he has put a lot of thought into this topic and it's a campaign for him. A good campaign .
His saying that this mindset of one year of playing and then off to the Pros was bad for the student-athletes of basketball but also for the profession of the NBA itself. Saying young players are not ready to produce the quality professionals that the sport should have. The sport will suffer and they will suffer. Good point. He said there was no one on the court last night that was ready. That body strength and maturity were more important than "greedy parents and sports agents". (Typical Charles to say what others dare not say). Staying in school develops the sport with better players in all regards .
I took his arguments as having real substance. Sounds like he has this as a campaign for the sport. It certainly made me aware of something I had not thought of before hearing last night. It's a good campaign. My hope is that it does make for solid change.
Good going Charles.
One and done is absolutely horrible for both college and pro ball. Every time I see someone trot out a name like Kobe or LeBron it sickens me; they are by far, by FAR the exception and not the rule. Start with Stephon Marbury and work your way down when it comes to the one and dones in the league.
And as for college, you barely get any loyalty in a team anymore, simply a school.
You grad, bro?
Agree, Charles did excellent job also promoting Auburn basketball. Sports agents is the base of all this stuff and u rarely here about it, new regulations is a must.
Sir Charles is the man, kinda crazy...but who isn't?
I Believe Auburn and Love IT...4 Life!
You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.
I always cringe a little when Chuck gets on a microphone, but he was in good form last night. Gotta love him.
Don't forget, Kobe was not a superstar right out of high school. Heck, he didn't even start his first couple of years in the league because he played behind Eddie Jones.
He represented himself & Auburn very well. Great advice for athletes and their parents. I loved his joking with the commentators. War Eagle, Charles!
It's great to be an Auburn Tiger!!!
I'm on the "Gus Bus" and loving the ride!
The only cringe-worthy moment was when they asked him if he could find the library on campus. He said something like, "Well, the guy who wrote all my papers could..." He quickly followed it with a "I'm JOKING, America!"
Yeah, I had an "oh crap!" moment at first when he said that.
Absolutely. The last player who came in straight from high school to perform well at a professional level was LeBron James, quite possibly one of the best basketball players of all time and most certainly the best NBA player currently. Which is to say, anomaly.
