First, I dont post much and when I do its either a simple question or humorus. Second, I would like to state that I have been a part of several strategic top-down manpower replacement processes at businesses ranging from 200,000 in annual revenue to 40,000,000 in annual revenue.
The success or failure of something often times depends on the confidences it is given, which in turn creates great need for a positive spin on any hire. In hiring Malzhan, we have put ourselves in a position to become Alabama's antithesis. We have created our own football identity separate from that of our in state rival. The simple truth is that one state cannot house two schools fighting over the same approach to football as well as it can house two schools with different theology. Our recruiting battles for skill players will change, our approach to the game will change, we will be a minority scheme in the SEC. These do not have to be bad things; rather if the Auburn family can somehow embrace them they will be good things in that Auburn will have an identity all its own in the state of Alabama. Why try and beat your competition at their own game when you have the option to play the game differently?
I cannot and will not speculate as to the pros and cons of CGM as a disciplinarian, recruiter, coach or any other intangible. I can however say, that from a business standpoint, we have made the right move schematically. Just an opinion from one man. I hope that others can adopt my sentiment. (P.S. Gus was not my first choice, but no man can succeed without support)

you're absolutely spot on....we will never be able to recruit against Alabama for the same type of players year in and out, particularly in Alabama...a great coach doesn't always have to coach like other great coaches....believe me Gus is smart enough to invent and implement any kind of scheme that will enable us to be competitive on the field on any given Saturday. The one thing he has not been accused of is his lack of intelligence.
