These adults (by the time they are getting paid they are no longer kids, save the occasional Lebron) have been told since they were in high school that they were most likely to make it big. Then their coaches and professors in college warn them of mis-handling their finances. As they enter the pros they go to a rookie class (or something like that) where they are warned again. On top of that they have professional agent from the first penny who tells them. I know some agents aren't as moral as others, but I have to think that the vast majority of them are interested in their clients long-term financial well-being since their own is so closely linked.
When you have so many people who you know are better at financial dealings than yourself telling you X, but you still do Y, that is arrogance.
