Baseball Update No. 8: Auburn beats Samford 9-3

  • Daniel Koger pitched a perfect ninth inning and Auburn beat Samford 9-3 on Wednesday night at Plainsman Park. The Tigers improved to 29-19 overall. They will take a 9-15 SEC record to this weekend's series at Florida. Samford fell to 25-24.

    Auburn gets another run in the eighth when Wacker scores on Glevenyak's sacrifice fly to make the score 9-3 going to the ninth.

    Glevenyak strikes out swinging to end it/ Auburn scores six runs on seven hits and leads 8-3 going to the eighth.

    Kelley just misses a grand slam to right, but the sacrifice fly scores another run. Auburn leads 4-3. Wacker singles up the middle to score another run. Auburn has scored four in the seventh and leads 6-3. Cooper beats out an infield hit to load the bases. Savage lines a single to right, his second hit of the inning, and Auburn has scored six runs and leads 8-3. Two outs and two on. Samford goes to the bullpen for right-hander Phillip Flach.

    Savage singles to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Glevenyak lines out to right, Ebert singles. Tella singles to score Savage and tie the game at 3-3. Tomscha singles to load the bases. Austin is hit by a pitch to score Ebert and give Auburn a 4-3 lead. Bases still loaded with one out.

    Tomscha singles, goes to second on Austin's groundout and scores on Kelley's base hit to make it 3-2 through five innings.

    Samford scores two runs in the fourth an one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Auburn starter Will Kendall leaves with one out in the fourth with a mild groin strain. Justin Camp gets out of the inning with a double play. Auburn has just three hits coming to bat in the fifth inning.

    Dan Glevenyak and Jordan Ebert hit back-to-back doubles to give Auburn a 1-0 lead over Samford in the second inning at Plainsman Park. After Ryan Tella grounds out, Damek Tomscha walks. Blake Austin is called out on strikes. Auburn leads 1-0 through two innings.
