Auburn loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't get the tying run across and lost 2-1 to Middle Tennessee State in the Auburn Tournament at Plainsman Park on Saturday.
Johnny Thomas' two-out, two-run homer in the eighth gave MTSU the only two runs it needed.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Auburn head coach John Pawlowski called on pinch-hitter J.D. Crowe to pinch hit for Patrick Savage in his first career at-bat. He popped out meekly to shortstop to end the game.
More to come.
Johnny Thomas cranks a two-run, two-out homer to right and MTSU leads 2-1. Both runs were unearned. Koger can't be the winner, and he deserves better.
Pinch-hitter Trevor Haggard leads off the top of the eighth by reaching on an error on a routine groundball to second baseman Jordan Ebert. That's it for Koger, who threw 105 pitches in a sterling performance. Terrance Dedrick is on to pitch for Auburn.
MTSU starter Hunter Adkins' success is no surprise. Through 14 innings this season, he's given up just one run, and that came on a walk, balk, wild pitch and groundout in the first inning. Auburn continues to lead MTSU 1-0 through six innings. Daniel Koger is matching him pitch for pitch.
On a cold, raw day at Plainsman Park, Auburn leads Middle Tennessee State 1-0 through five innings. The Tigers have two hits and scored the game's only run in the first on Ryan Tella's RBI groundout. MTSU has three hits off left-hander Daniel Koger.

Thanks, Phillip. Hope we can keep the win streak going.
Poor Koger. Man, that guy gets less run support than anyone I've ever seen. It was like that for him in high school too. I've never seen someone that had to win more games 2-1 or 1-0.
3 hits says it all...
"An Auburn Man needs no introduction"
Fearless and true.
