So glad the Auburn baseball team was able to bounce back from last weekend's embarrassing sweep by claiming a win against Samford last night. Hopefully they can carry that momentum into this weekend's series at Vandy. However, this baseball team truly defied logic last weekend. How does an Alabama team that was ranked 150 in the RPI beat an Auburn team that was ranked 23 in the RPI three out of three games. On top of that, the same Alabama team goes on to lose 9-1 last night against a UAB team was ranked 163 in the RPI, while simultaneously Auburn goes on to win against a Samford team 7-5 that was ranked 101 in the RPI. Absolutely none of this makes sense by any stretch of the imagination. I know that we didn't play our best baseball last weekend, and in this sport anybody can win on any given day. I watched the games, which included some questionable umpire calls, a grand slam, a walk-off homer, poor pitching, stranding too many base runners, our runners getting picked off left and right... I totally understand HOW we lost, just not WHY it happened when our team had so much momentum going into that series. Given all the information I am forced to assume that last weekend was a complete fluke. Unless maybe it can be contributed to our lackluster play on the road? We're only 3-7 when playing away. Either way, I think that this weekend's series at Vandy will tell us a lot. Was losing like we did at Alabama just a new trend, or just a fluke. Let's hope it was the latter.
