...you don't know anything. Neither do I. All we have are guesses. I am disgusted right along with everyone else, but I am man enough to know when I don't know the answer. If you are man enough, too, then keep reading.
Last year we blamed the gimmicky spread offense for our problems on offense and defense. We were excited to get rid of the spread and move the offense we envied the most from our neighbors, Alabama and LSU. We were tired of the defensive coordinator and wanted him gone too, and we got an upgrade at that position. The table was set for improvement this year, albeit with an unproven QB and offensive line.
Then we started losing games. We started blaming the QB play. The linebacker. The DB's. We wanted all the up-and-coming freshman on the field - they would be our saviors. And we put them in. Clint played the entire second half and threw two picks. Mike fumbled again. We had sack after sack after sack. Penalties. Problems. What do we do now.
You know, change all the coaches. Gut the team. Start over with everyone new and this time it will be better. Only you don't KNOW it will be different. You wouldn't know what to look for in an AD if I paid you to find one. Which coach would you hire? You wouldn't know where to start. Do you want the spread, or the running game? You don't even know what you want. Besides one thing... you want to win.
Fair enough. But admit that with your all-consuming passion to win at football, that you are simply a fan, whose anger is nothing more than hot air without substance. Otherwise, you would come to the board with better solutions than "swap the QB!!!!" or "swap the coach!!!". You would tell us who with. And if they would come. And why.
So admit that you don't know if it's better to fire CSL now, or wait til the end of the year. Admit you praised Chizik not two years ago for giving you one of the best nights of your life that January. Admit you loved the man, and now you are confused. Admit it - you are just a fan.
Fearless and True!
Being a fan doesnt make one mentally deficient. And why does it matter if people loved Chiz two years ago and not now? That's what smart people do, assess a bad situation, look at the factors involved in a situation and determine their actions going forward. Not going to state what I have been stating all day, but Gene has not made some smart decisions the past two years and it is now showing. And all the things you are talking about that "fans/armchair coaches," have been mentioned by the fans as things they would do, only two or three weeks before the coaches do the same thing. So much for experience and knowledge of football. Not saying by any means that anyone here can do that job or any other job for the athletic department, but some things in life are pretty clear, and Gene doe not currently deserve to be our coach, we deserve far better. Doesn't mean I will always feel this way, but like I said, consistent evaluation leads to smarter decisions. We aren't seeing that right now.
I Believe Auburn and Love IT...4 Life!
You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.
"Get in where you fit in." Life is, Too Short TL;DR
Well put, let's continue to support the team and let the season play out then decisions can be made - WDE
ON TO VICTORY - STRIKE UP THE BAND
I would say if we could just dial back the hyperbole a bit on a lot of these posts, that would be a good start.
I am much more cautious about criticism than most. But the offensive struggles are very concerning (this is a point at which I am holding back my hyperbole). And I have to tell you where I think it began. When CSL was hired he mentioned "this is not my offense. this is our offense. we are going to look at a lot of different sets and formations. and everyone will have input." I don't think that is a good way to approach the OC position. And I believe that is our biggest obstacle offensively.
Defensively, we are getting a lot better. I think a lot of the D's problems are stemming from the offense. I think we are very close to being a capable SEC defense at all positions.
Special teams are still holding there own. They look solid.
But that offense is in a world of hurt. Boy I hope they can come up with something.
BTW, not convinced cleaning house is the best solution either. It can take a very long time to clean up and rebuild. Also, it's a lot easier to spend someone elses money. I can take at least one name off the list to call for the buyout cash.
Well said. I guess for many " "All in" really meant All-in....well as long as you win right now. I think firing Chiz now or end of season is a bad move. It's a bad season...thats all..due to fact that we have 2 new coodinators with personnel better suited for previous regime....whle playing in the SEC. It is going to take more than one pre-season and a half season for the present players to adjust and to build a roster of suitable players for these coordinators. Do you really think staring over will be good for us? i do not.
