Confident Bulldogs...

  • It seems that the MSU faithful have marked up this one as a win after their blowout of mighty Jackson State. The word also from the MSU faithful is that Clemson wouldnt have a shot at them and are shocked we lost to them. They seem to think playing in Starkville has sealed the deal for them. I think otherwise....Auburn 28 MSU 17

Whether you think you can, or you can't, you are probably right

  • I hope your right. I think if the interior of our defense gets more physical and our safeties improve in run support we could take on most any team. I guess we will have to wait and see the improvement from week 1 to week 2.

Playing in front of 48,000 fans IS a big deal for mess state!

I think MSU should be confident. We will never blow anyone out playing the defensive scheme (and personnel) we played on Saturday night. Giving receivers 7-8 yard cushions (even on 3rd and short), diving at the legs of ball carriers, having no size or athleticism in the middle, and getting too far upfield constantly by the DEs, etc., and why should we expect a different result the next game?

I'm not trying to bash the coaching staff (who have yet to prove they can field a legit D in their 4 years here), but what does Chizik expect when he doesn't put our best players on the field and he doesn't put the ones on the field in a position to make plays?

He's in his 6th year as a BCS head coach and we're still waiting for him to successfully defend the forward pass. Enough is enough.

Hopefully they'll be over confident and make dumb mistakes... Though, if our offense has the same hiccups as this past weekend, I still think we'll eek out a W, but I doubt by that much... I'd say 21-17. Maybe even 21-20... Hows that for a heart attack game?

  • I don't blame them for being excited. If I were them and had watched our first game I'd be excited too. Our coaches, whom I believe know their business, said we had poor tackling. If I were the msu fans I'd be excited about playing a team that tackled poorly. Our red zone offense just wasn't very good. I'd be excited about that if I were a msu fan.

Of course I fully expect our coaches to make the necessary adjustments for us to win the game.

  • Sure they're excited. They are 1-0 and they think they see blood in the water after our loss last week. And when some MSU fans wander over to our board they look at the comments of those thinking one game means our world is coming apart it gets them even more pumped up.

I liked reading the comments of MWDeav, AU Heel, Pastor Jon and others who continue to point out--rightly--that in every season under Chizik, Auburn has exceeded the expectations of the experts. Every single one. No exceptions.

This week is going to be tough. MSU will pour everything into this game because a win--with their schedule--means they could even get into the Top 15 or 10 in a few weeks before things get ugly for them. But this week is also a week when we have a chance to improve while MSU tries to figure out what they actually have on both sides of the ball.

I like our chances. I remember going in there in '86 when we were undefeated and they had one loss. They KNEW they were going to beat us. We were up 31-0 at the half; game, set, match. That would be nice.

    CivilSense

  • They're usually confident in the week leading up to the Auburn game b/c they beat up on Murray State, SE Louisiana, or Jackson St the first week of the season.

Hopefully, the trend will continue with another Auburn victory.

48,000 Rednecks ringing cowbells is loud as hell.

Don't know why you call them rednecks. I work with several MSU alumni, and all of them are classy, albeit misguided, people.
I have yet to meet an obnoxious affiliate of MSU.

NOTE: I have never met Dan Mullen.

What a positive spin you put on your comments. With positive comments like that we certainly don't need any negative comments to offset the positive ones.
