So, hurry up and get our timing on. BTW - Doyel is a NY sports writer who couldn't find Auburn on the map if you had him put one finger on Montgomery and the other on Columbus. He only knows where Tuscaloosa is because Kirk Herbstreit gave him directions. What a buffoon!

Great read Ron thanks for pointing that out. History does tell us that Auburn will be back. It also tells me that we haven't had any coaches go longer than 8 to 10 yrs. Maybe that's just hard to do these days. Do you think the days of a longevity coach such as Bryant, Paterno, or B Bowden are over? Is CGP at TCU the longest tenured coach in D1 today?

Must be. 12 years? Petersen has been at Boise since 2005 as HC. Maybe Solich at Ohio (does that qualify?)
It has becomes an arms race for HCs and the money will keep getting bigger and guys are going to keep moving. What IF Petrino had not had his slip at UA? What would the bidding be like for his services today? His stock might be flying and he could have been working Long over big time.....

I've said as much on a couple of posts earlier, but not nearly as eloquently.
Whoever takes over will win big at Auburn, and I think it will be in the next even numbered year - 2014.
The SEC is the best proving ground for a coach who is confident he has what it takes to be a big time winner. Auburn has as many or more undefeated seasons as anyone in the conference in the past decade.
We can almost predict that the next coach will go undefeated in at least one season then lose control and flame out in the end. History says it is so.

I remember when Colin Cowherd made similar statements when Alabama was looking for their last coach. To paraphrase: "Who would want to coach at Alabama? Tommy Tuberville has won 5 straight and Auburn owns the rivalry, Alabama's been suffering from NCAA probation, etc. Why would Saban ever leave the NFL to coach at this program? Alabama will never be the team they once were."
Well we all know how that turned out. We are going to be in great shape again soon! The other point is that serious coaches will never take career advice from the media!

Well written. A history lesson for the media that worries so much for Auburn(Thanks!). What kind of coach wants to come to Auburn? The kind that isn't afraid of a challenge. If a coach wanted a safe, risk free, job they could work for CBS or ESPN spewing worry, doom and gloom to the fans who want to read only bad news about Auburn.It's like the Palestinian News Agency reporting on Israel. You "report" what the masses want, not the truth...
