Great article Ron!
Every true football fan that I know realizes that AU is an elite program. They do not look forward to the date when AU shows up on their schedule and it is a significant win to them if they beat us. We are there and have been for the last 30 years. The turds, dawgs, LSU, etc can say what they want about us but we ain't going away for a long time. WDE Baby!!!
I may have missed something, but I think the point of the article was how the schools are perceived, not whether or not they actually are an elite program. I don't think most college football fans around the country perceive Auburn as an elite program. And I'm not sure we are, YET, but we're close, and Coach Chizik is doing all the right things, and I believe we'll get there. As I said, I may have missed something. War Eagle.
State named schools always seem to dominate for some reason, maybe money. Across the country Texas dominates Texas A&M, Oklahoma dominates Oklahoma State, Michigan dominates Michigan State, Oregon dominates Oregon State, Colorado dominates Colorado State, etc., etc. Auburn, Clemson, and a few others have escaped dominance but the press is still reluctant to give them equal billing. Some have the perception that when an Alabama wins it is because of tradition, superior talent and coaching; when an Auburn wins it is because they cheat, have a weak schedule or got the breaks. Sadly this bias is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. It makes recruiting more difficult because of the state named schoo's perceived superiority. We must live with this unwarranted bias and continue to prove the morons wrong.
