My former company managed a lot of the land around the Florida fires in the late 90's. I was on site for several of the fires. It's amazing to see what it can do. I saw the crowns of 60ft pine trees go up like a roman candle. The fire would actually burn under many of the fire breaks. I saw it cross 4 lane highways in a matter of minutes. "Contained" is a very lose word when fighting forest fires. The fire pretty much does what it wants to.

I did a late season snowboarding trip out there earlier this year and they were having bush fires at that time as well. Driving back into Denver from Breckenridge, there was a ton of smoke. it was all over the news then. Was a sign of things to come obviously.

Nice photo Ron. Being a resident in Colorado Springs since '96, I can't recall a more devastaing event in this area. I'm about 13 miles away from the Flying W Ranch that burned down.

I flew through Denver on Monday on my way back from L.A. It was probably in the upper 60s when I left L.A., but it was 103 when we landed in Denver around 2:00 PM. I believe that is way above normal.

I live 20 miles East of that fire and have friends and customers who have now lost their homes. It is quite a sobering scene to watch the fire rage on here.

I'm a forester/wildland firefighter in central FL, and it is truly amazing to work on a large wildfire. We have been fortunate in receiving much needed rainfall this fire season, so me and most of the forest rangers in my area are volunteering to go out to Colorado to help fight their fires.

What stadium is that in the photo... I lived out there in the late 70's and early 80's and still visit some but you got me stumped with that stadium.
