Insidesource was trying to say that sharing info about a recruit can sometimes be a bad thing and coaches don't always like their knowledge put on a message board. That was in reference to the original post in this thread.

However, Insidesource accidentally quoted lonestartiger in his post, which threw us off since his response didn't have anything to do with the post by lonestartiger.

Ultimately the idea is that if a kid might secretly be leaning to signing with us and is currently committed elsewhere, it's not always the best idea to publicize that info. What can happen is word gets back to the other coaching staff and they make one more visit or one more call in an effort to reel the player back in.

Insider is saying a situation like that has happened in the past and could happen again if word gets around quickly enough.

Someone already posted about us possibly stealing Collins on another public Auburn message board...

Corndogs are known to frequent this other board...so its definitely out there.

I really don't think message board material like this will deter a kid this late in the process.

Internet gossip has deterred a kid from signing somewhere before... however it has not happened very much... i would even go as far to say it is practically non-existent in being a factor... a athlete is going to go where he wants to go.. period... message boards and sites such as this are here for people to share info and their own ideas.. if you shut down every topic just because someone does not like it you would have to shut down the whole site... recruiting is what it is... we will get our share.. we will lose out on some... most will be happy... some will be disappointed we didn't get this guy or that guy... take me for instance.. i am a little shocked we did not recruit that well this year at RB... i thought that was a position we would have nailed a long time ago... doesn't mean what we have commited is not good.. just means i was hoping for more... it's not the end of the world though either way... WAR EAGLE!!

For what it's worth, I don't think that the worry is so much that the kid would see it and think anything, but if those around him (family, friends, coaches, his recruiting coaches, etc) hear about it, they can turn up the pressure and sway him back the other way.

I agree with you, it's not likely, and as someone else noted, if it's on this board it's surely made the rounds on many other boards.

Deleting it is still probably a good idea, but oh well, it's out there now I guess.
