  • I've read nearly every thread on here but I haven't read one that makes a good case for hiring Jimbo Fisher.

It seems to me he would lose three to four games per year, on average.

Other than his ties to Auburn - why?

I'm closer to FSU down here and I'm hearing that FSU wont fight him leaving.

  • Fisher fits at Auburn. Petrino does not. If its just about winning then we need to take the creed down and quit feeding the trash to our students and athletes. He has repeatedly lied. What makes you think he will run a clean quality program when he cant even be faithful to his wife and he lies to his friend his AD. He is proven but the baggage is to much for us when we have alternatives---and probably better altenatives. Jimbo would be a slam hire--Petrino will get in trouble or get us in trouble and we will be right back in this mess. His actiions killed a very good season for Arkansas.

  • Chris Petersen is an interesting choice. Other schools have coveted him for years. His Boise St teams have been made of players who were just glad to get a scholarship. Obviously, he knows how to coach them up, but it could be interesting to see if he could handle the 4 and 5 star players who have been coddled since the 5th grade. One thing is for sure, the Auburn fans and supporters will be divided no matter who is hired. Take Bobby Petrino out of the discussion, and there would not be much division concerning the other available coaches. Arkansas fired Petrino. If Auburn hires him, would that mean that Auburn would not have fired him? Infidelity is one thing. It affects families. Infidelity with a paid staffer who was given special privilege because of his interest in her escalates the affair to affect the University of Arkansas. Now , Petrino's affair has come to affect Auburn. Isn't this how it works? One bad decision by a man and a woman has caused strife among tens of thousands. Auburn doesn't need this, hire or not, Auburn is affected. Sad.

I'd be interested in why Dye is so high on Smart?

Dye is a defensive guy. Smart's defenses have led the nation. Dye played at Georgia, coached at Alabama and became the head coach at Auburn. Smart would be following the same career path. Dye got his name on the stadium. Maybe he thinks smart could, too.

All you are doing with this is dividing the family. Unless you've had your head in the sand, you know that there are more people against him being the next coach than for it. Say it for what it is. You want Petrino hired, and that's great, but what you're doing with starting stuff like this is throwing fuel on the fire, not bringing a fan base together. Start the website after he is hired, if that actually happens, respectfully.

You are correct about more people not wanting him... but my fear is, it's not how many don't want him, it is who does want him. As many others have, I wrote Dr Gogue yesterday concerning this. I'm sick and damn tired of a few puppet masters being the only ones that are listened to at Auburn. Other than Petrino, I do not care who is hired as our coach. It's subjective, and I'm willing to get behind the new head coach with all my support... With one exception, Petrino. I am an Auburn Alumnus, if Petrino is hired, I am done with Auburn and will no longer support them because it all boils down to the wants and fulfilling the egos of a small elite click. If Auburn can dig down and do the right thing for all of Auburn University, it's alumni and family I will throw my support behind them 100%.
I also believe there is something else at play here. The bama controlled media. IMO, I believe all these reports of Petrino are orchestrated by them. A large REC donor owns the Sports Radio station in Mobile. The have fired many people over the years because... "they weren't pro bama enough". Randy Kennedy, who is also the Sports Editor for the Press Register works for this radio station. So you know it's in his best interest to be "pro bama" in order to keep his radio job. Now in Randy's defense, he has done some research that he discussed this week on his radio program. He went back and researched who was on the list when Gene Chizik was hired. He said Chizik was a big surprise because he wasn't on anyone's list.

  • Is there any interest in the Northern Illinois or Kent State coaches? Seems to be a lot of favorable talk about both of them in the media...

  • Wilson, rag tag was a reference to the process that this has become. I would trust Pat to hire our next coach by himself. Doesn't mean he would get it right. This whole thing is a gamble anyway, there isn't a sure fire thing and never will be. This hire, IMO, despite the supposed chain of command, will be made by 3-4 people, and not one of them is on the search committee or named Gouge or however you spell it. No one can convince me otherwise because I have seen it with my own eyes for 25 years.

So true if jj wants to keep his job he won't hire someone as risky as Petrino.

  • Ron, doesn't it seem that if we really wanted Petrino then it would already be a done deal? I mean he is desperate and would take the job the moment he is offered. My point is, it seems that he is not too high on the list or is a backup plan at this point because if we wanted him then we could have him now! You thoughts please...And sorry if you have answered this question already...

Aren't we Debbie Downer this morning? There are good names on this list, and Auburn will find a good coach. We on this board need to stop with all the negativism toward the university and the search. We need to chill out and just see what comes.

Like all of us, I check this site and others several times a day to see that the latest word is. However, to say that we aren't going to get a good coach because of whatever many of you are being negative about, is just silly and divisive.

Love the fact you call him a debby downer, and then back on the first page above this very post, you call someone out because they didn't quite understand what Ron had meant.

    Oh how the world turns!

Hey Trojan, I enjoy your comments because you seem to know what you are talking about. I'm with you on the FSU fans not really caring if Jimbo leaves. He blew the N. C. State game, but he was in the Florida game until near the end, and Florida just seemed to want it a little more. If he had won those two games, they would have replaced Bobby's statue with his. Next year willl be the test for Fisher if he stays. A new QB and a new DC could trip him up. We might want to wait and get him cheap. However, Jimbo has recruited well and is a heck of a nice guy. He seems to have tightened things up from the loose latter Bowden years. And he did it without hiring a security firm. I'm thinking that he's looking at next year and could strongly consider a move to Auburn. Several of the guys we have been recruiting have had FSU as a top choice. If he could bring Dameuyne Craig, that would be a bonus. The FSU fans who I know measure every coach against the prime Bowden years, but they all wanted to fire Bowden in his final years. Their football tradition is fairly young, and they don't know how good they have it. After all is said and done, I'm thinking Jimbo would be a safe hire. He is a personable guy, and I believe he could win his share. Could he win them all? I don't know, but Terry Bowden did and TT did. He is probably every bit as capable as they were. Unless the committee comes up with a surprise, I would be okay with Jimbo. By the way, I live close to Tallahassee and know many FSU fans. They are typical. Half of them left after the Florida lose.

Wow, the fact that he had three down votes on this, says it all, that some of you can't see right through the Petrino smokescreen. I agree completely with Auburn1981 about Petrino and Fisher.
