Look at 2 of our top choices? One has zero HC experience (I think he has been a great DC), one has 1 year HC experience in the sunbelt, 1 just barely beat a woeful 6-6 GT team and half of his staff is going to be gone. I just don't know why we seem to always do this. Obviously Petrino is not going to be it and I think that is a huge mistake but I can't do anything about that but I am very disappointed. We have been coachless for 8 days. I thought people were saying that this search & choice would be swift this time and not drag out like last time. How are we still just gauging interest from people? Is Malzahn even on the Arkansas list? Phillip thanks for the update. I know these "could be" great hires but this time around I was hoping we wouldn't have to settle for "could be" great hires, I was hoping for someone who has proven already that they can win bigtime by having already done it? If this is the best and the highest we are shooting than I am disappointed. Who is supposed to be the big fish? Surely not Smart, I hope. I wanted Petrino but I thought he would be a back up plan to the big fish they were going to surprise us with. Well, I got surprised I guess. :(

I woke up this morning to this and just threw up in my mouth....Kirby Smart, really? When are people going to learn that the key to the Saban success is superior players. It is the one constant that has existed wherever he has had success. Having coached for Saban is no guarantee of success...Dooley was an absolute failure at TN and neither Fisher nor Poleni have exactly taken the world by storm. GA has tried to play straight up power pro style against Alabama for almost a decade now and still cannot match Alabama man for man talent wise and that is without any in state competition for recruits in a talent rich state. I guess several good years of recruiting by coaches who recruit more than coach and will soon be gone has some AU people thinking that we can build our own Alabama. They are wrong and I am afraid that without a power base of talent like Alabama, LSU and UGA Kirby is going to struggle to be more than an 8 win coach. Not to mention going with another defensive guy means that we are going to struggle every few years to bring in another offensive mind. Say what you want, stability of offensive scheme is much more important than stability of defensive scheme and without a coach that brings his own offense we will always have instability on offense. I want BP, but, if we are going to take a risk with someone (Kirby Smart is definitely a risk) then I think we owe it to ourselves to finish the experiment we started back with CTT and give Gus a shot to see what his offense can do day in and day out long term in the SEC.

petrino will be the higher end hire with baggage but an semi-appealing coaching portfolio sans the lies. (people change) GUS MALZAHN (who has been in my personal top since the middle of the season) family man, did exceptionally well at Ark St and is all too familiar with our staff and talent, and oh yeah outstanding recruiter. Kirby Smart i think his stock is climbing and we'd be silly not to look long and hard at him. Peterson, Patterson, and the laundry list of others ehhh can we please stick to : Petrino, Malzahn, and Smart.
