Looks as if Kirby may be leading as of Mon morning. Positives 1. Has been trained how to run a successful program 2. Understands how saban thinks 3. No pesky buy-out

Negatives 1. turd 2. even if he beats bama the turd nation will claim partial credit for it 3. no previous HC experience so it will take a season or two to addapt

Your #2 on negatives is a new perspective I never thought of. Very funny as probably true:/ He may be a good one, just a bit of a gamble. We'll see:)

You're... It's important to use proper grammar when insulting the intelliegence of others.

    Awesome post there Bonner.
Re: Sam's post-I would not be too hung up on experience if they know football. Its only a handful of coaches with experience at a top SEC program with an instate rival going bonkers now. Pat Dye had HC experience at Wyoming and turned out really good. Even Petrino has loads of applicable coaching experience but zero experience in dealing with the storm he will face in the media and on the recruiting trail. I do believe lots is happening and this is going very fast, but we are not getting updates every day.

I know they may all end up as great choices. I just would for once like to see us aim for the stars on a search is all. Thanks!!:)

Really? I'm a college graduate, season ticket holder, intelligent woman. I have shown that in my posts and you know what else I have that you don't besides a college degree and season tickets? Manners. Ever heard of them? Go away, please and thank you.

Sorry about him Sam, looks like somebody doesn't know how to treat a lady.

  • I woke up this morning to this and just threw up in my mouth....Kirby Smart, really? When are people going to learn that the key to the Saban success is superior players. It is the one constant that has existed wherever he has had success. Having coached for Saban is no guarantee of success...Dooley was an absolute failure at TN and neither Fisher nor Poleni have exactly taken the world by storm. GA has tried to play straight up power pro style against Alabama for almost a decade now and still cannot match Alabama man for man talent wise and that is without any in state competition for recruits in a talent rich state. I guess several good years of recruiting by coaches who recruit more than coach and will soon be gone has some AU people thinking that we can build our own Alabama. They are wrong and I am afraid that without a power base of talent like Alabama, LSU and UGA Kirby is going to struggle to be more than an 8 win coach. Not to mention going with another defensive guy means that we are going to struggle every few years to bring in another offensive mind. Say what you want, stability of offensive scheme is much more important than stability of defensive scheme and without a coach that brings his own offense we will always have instability on offense. I want BP, but, if we are going to take a risk with someone (Kirby Smart is definitely a risk) then I think we owe it to ourselves to finish the experiment we started back with CTT and give Gus a shot to see what his offense can do day in and day out long term in the SEC.

Who better to recruit against Nick Saban than Kirby Smart? Look, he's not my number one coach but to think he is a terrible hire really is not paying attention to the facts.

I agree. IF we are going this route I would prefer Malzahn. I worry about how much of the team issues he was involved with before but Phillip reassures me he was not a big part of that. He knows the players, I am more comfortable with him. I know Petrino is not the only great hire but he is the best of our choices for me

  • If Gus, or someone of that tier ends up the hire, I think it will speak volumes about the perception of the AU job. I certainly think Gus has a shot at some success I hope, but his hire means that no one of any stature wants the job. It means the perception is that AU specifically is not a good place to coach for any myriad of reasons, or on a larger generic sense, perhaps no one wants to come into the buzz saw of the SEC west, and have to face LSU, and Bama every year.
