Charlie Trotman

  • Anybody hear him this morning on John and Barry AM 740.
He did a really good job. He also basically threw our Offensive Co under the bus.
Said we aren't using Probst enough. Basically backed up a lot of the stuff being said here. Was critical of the play calling. Said we are going to get Lutz killed with some of these passes. Said he didn't understand why we didn't throw the short passes to Lutz and let his athletic ability get yardage.

  • Should not be listening to Longshore. He is a Finescum want-a-be of the worst kind.

  • I'd say CharlieTrotman has paid his dues and can say what he wants to say.

Charlie may have paid his dues but he is not watching the same game. We threw to Lutz 8 times the other day. Luts made 5 receptions for 29 yards. Most of his receptions were short yardage throws including one as the first play of the game where he caught the ball 5 yards behind the LOS and was tackled for a loss.

Defenses are keying two players in our offense, Lutz and McCalleb. Wherever they go, the defense goes.

I heard it and wanted to clarify some of the things you said.
Charlie said we should throw to Lutz down the seem more often as we successfully did once against Clemson. This play should be a staple of the offense.
Also he suggested Auburn throw deep more often to Coates. He would do so at least 4 times a game.
He mentioned KF throwing 30 yards for a 3 yard gain and asked why so often. Why not more slants. He recalls Auburn never to have thrown a slant all season. He also said that if you float a pass in the SEC you are doomed and KF does this too often. This is when he made the comment regarding Lutz killing himself to defend the INT.

In a nutshell Charlie believes CSL has made the offense too difficult for KF.

I like Charlie a lot. He knows what he is talking about and he is a good Auburn man. He uses plenty of diplomacy in his comments, but he is as honest as they come.

That's his brother below #44. Trust me. CT is ALL AUBURN.

This, "In a nutshell Charlie believes CSL has made the offense too difficult for KF."
Someone in-the-know please correct me but, it's been talked about for years that in '72, Randy Campbell started the first game with five offenses plays in his repertoire. Always loved that story. Is it true ?

  • I'm certainly no coach, but even I know if you're playing LSU and are backed up on your 1 yard line, you don't hand the ball off to a back lined up 8 yards in the end zone.
Everyone watching the game with me called safety as soon as the ball was snapped. Disaster.

  • I trust Charlie's opinion more than any one else on this site. I don't see anything wrong with what he said either. If the offensive coordinator was calling plays perfectly Auburn would have gained a lot more than 200 yards per game (or whatever it really is). But is anyone perfect? No.

I still think Gene should have gone for it with 4 minutes to go in the game. I knew the game was over as soon as he punted. If he trusted his defense enough to get the ball back, they could get it back after a missed 4th down conversion. If LSU had kicked a field goal either way, they would have kicked it faster after a missed 4th down than after a punt. That would leave more time for Auburn to score.

But, he gets paid nearly $10,000.00 per day to make those decision. I surely don't. I armchair QB for free. There is a difference.
