The story of Auburn's climb to the 2010 national championship.

    Phillip,

Thanks for the preview of the upcoming book. The 2010 team will forever live in my mind.
I went to every game and I saw every play that year. My favorite game was the one in
Tuscaloosa. When the game ended, I thought I was living a dream. No way did Auburn
win, no way. Then I read the scoreboard: 28-27. A great game, indeed. A great season,
    indeed.

I believe that team would have gone 20-0 if needed. The team just had an indomitable
spirit. I hope I see another team like that one day.

Thanks, Phillip. Happy birthday and Merry Christmas.

  • Can't wait to read the book. That excerpt brought back many great memories, none of which rival the trip to Glendale and watching that ball sail through the uprights and the celebration at the Rennaisance Hotel afterward. Waited 53 years for that moment.

  • PM, can't wait for the book and your documentation of the story which will undoubtedly include great insight and behind the scenes heroes. It is that "leadership" that is often mentioned but hard to define that has been missing for 23 months. Your brief taste of the book even mentioned the heroes who made sure IT happened, whatever the IT may be from time to time...not just Cam and Fairley, but Burns, Etheridge, Caudle, Bynes, Ziemba, Pugh, Adams and others who personified the Spirit and the Attitude.
Like you, my 35 AU years have shown me over and over that it is the blue collar, overcome adversity, "Lean on Me", bust their behinds, "I Believe", 3*s who are the heart and soul, the glue, the foundation that most Auburn teams are known for and have propelled the Boys in Blue to be great teams and have special seasons.
Hopefully, we start a new chapter in the Orange and Blue history book with a return to those core values (like Coach Jordan's 7 D's as PS recalled them a few weeks ago) and players who fill those roles and are willing to pay the price...for it is neither easy nor cheap and most in today's generation have a difficult time understanding that.

  • Awesome article!! Got tears in my eyes just from thinking about the whole season and what those young men and coaches accomplished. They made Auburn fans everywhere very proud and excited. I too was in Glendale and the feeling at the end of that game was like none other. I knew when it came down to Josh's snap, Neil's catch and hold and Wes' kick that we were going to be the winners. I had flash backs to Wes' kick as a freshman (he had to do it twice) against Florida in the Swamp. I want the passion, determination, desire, blood, sweat and tears of that team back at Auburn and I think it will be there. And we as the Auburn family will have to be there for unconditional support. Merry Christmas all. Thanks Phillip and Bryan for all you do for us. It is deeply appreciated. War Eagle!!!

  • Phillip, thanks for the memories. I know that will be a terrific book about our championship teams! Until I did some research, I didn't realize that we have had so many undefeated teams. Starting with our earliest teams, we have had 9 undefeated seasons while Alabama has had 11. Many of Alabama's National Championship seasons were won with a loss. Bryant only had 3 undefeated seasons while Shug had 2. Since the Bryant era, we have had 3 undefeated seasons while Bama has had 2.

  • Phillep; most everytime I read an article by you similar to this, I can`t help but think how proud your dad would be of you. He was the epitome of Southern sportswriters and the nut didn`t fall far from the tree. Great exerts and looking forward to buying the book. Merry Christmas to you and the family from the Longshores.
