Can someone who knows explain the rule if

the ref had stopped clock with one second to play? Stan White kept saying something about a spike rule? I'm unclear on that.

once they spot the ball and the O lines up on it the official would wind the clock no way to spike it with a second left the game would end on that play

He was just saying that SC wouldn't have enough to time to get the kicking team out there and get the play off before the clock winded down so they would have to spike the ball(qb takes the snap and immediately throws the ball to the ground) in order to stop the clock. But even then the clock would have winded down and the game would be over. The only shot they had was to snap the ball and heave it to the endzone.

OK well that makes sense. But, theoretically, they could have run the field game unit on the field for a FG attempt - in theory of course. :-)
