Cam Newton decision

  • Just wanted to get some thoughts...

There's obviously two possibilities here. Stay for his senior year or go to the NFL. If he stays I think it will be huge for Auburn football. Next year will definitely be a year to see how far we have come as far as recruiting and somewhat of a rebuilding year. I think Cam coming back could be the difference in a 7 or 8 win season and a 9, 10, or more win season. 10 wins would be huge in a "rebuilding" year and would catapult us into the following year where, in my opinion, we will be very good! However, him coming back also brings the baggage of the crap that went on this season and the ongoing media frenzie over every move his father makes. I can just see that getting even worse next year.

If he leaves for the NFL, the hit piece stories will subside somewhat but we will probably only win 8 games max because of a first year starter at QB, young O-line, and brutal road schedule. The positive, though, would be valuable experience for whoever the starter at QB is and a year to "grow up" as a football player.

I guess it comes down to weathering the hit piece stories for another year in order to win possibly 10 games.

    Thoughts?

  • As much as I would like him to come back, I think it would be better for Auburn University if he moved on. After all I love Auburn more than I do Cam. Besides he gave us a Heisman Trohpy, an undefeated season, and a National Championship. Is another year of speculation and mud being slung at AU really worth a possible/maybe 10 win season. JMHO.

    WAR DAMN CHAMPIONS!!!!

  • Cam needs to move on, in the end AU will still take hits but if Cam leaves things would get better a lot qucker

  • With 24 seniors leaving, in addition to Cam, Nick, and possibly Darvin, it's time for a fresh start. These special men have left us with a lifetime of memories, stories that we and our children will tell to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Once you've reached the pinnacle, it can never be recreated, no matter who stays or goes.

It will be a tough year without all these guys, but we'll rebuild quickly with what's coming around the bend....

  • First, every AU fan should want Cam back unless you don't believe he's an honest guy. I appreciate the "big picture" perspective where we say that it's better for the long term. But wait until we're in Baton Rouge grinding out a game at 10pm with 90,000 drunk cajuns screaming, and make no mistake, we'll miss him.

That said, Trotter is no slouch; he was supposed to lead this team. And looking at the actual financial situation of that family and his likely 1st round status, he'd be crazy to stay. Vol is right, even if he comes back I don't see a repeat (look across the state). Wish Darvin would stay but it sounds like he's pretty anxious to get to the next level. I'm excited about the guys on their way up, I think from QB to CB, we have some great potential over the next 2-4 years. War Eagle!

  • You people are crazy. If Cam did nothing and Auburn did nothing, what have we to fear? Will we really allow Thayer Evans and such have the power to "cow us"? Hell no. Come back Cam. War Eagle.

We have the reputation of Auburn University to fear. I am not willing to risk that for any number of victories.

So basically you think he's dirty and we need to hide from him. Sweep this under the rug, plug our ears, and hope it all goes away? What on earth could happen next year that didn't happen this year you're worried about regarding our reputation? Look, if something unethical happened, it will be found out and Auburn will be punished. Make no mistake about that. It happened years after for USC. I don't think that's the case and if that is true I would hope we'd get him back. I will treat him as an Auburn man with integrity until the day something real tells me otherwise.

  • If we are successful, with or without Cam, it does not matter. When AU has a great FB team...people/media try to drag us thru the mud. If we're an average or below average FB team...you won't hear much about anything.

Let me make sure I understand what you are saying. It was find for him to go through all that crap this season for Auburn but, next year it's not in Auburn's best interest to endure a little crap for Cam. Cam Newton is an Auburn man and you want him to leave through the back door. " FAMILY ALL IN " have you heard that phrase before? DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS????????

  • I for one don't think AU or Cam did anything wrong, nor do I think it matters if he comes back or not: from the standpoint of being judged by the media, you better develop some tough skin. The media will never leave an open wound alone for very long. Every time they mention our 2010 BCS Nat'l Championship they will throw in the comments about the "cloud of suspicion".

It will be ok guys and girls. AU is still AU and we'll continue to be a pain in the ass of all those around us wishing for there to be a period of "domination" real or percieved for their school. Bama, GA, LSU, FL & TN in no particular order all think we should all pucker up and kiss their collective a$$&$ while we are going to the back of the line... This is one of the reasons we kick their butts when we are not suppossed to in the eyes of some. We always play hard and have to work for everything we ever get. Go read the Auburn Creed.

CGC understands the world of football in the SEC and will not rest as indicated by his comments the other day regarding how long he had to rest. None! It's time to get busy with the recruiting.

If you are holding onto a shred of hope for these guys (Fairly, Newton, Adams) to come back I think your gonna be dissapointed. They didn't come to Auburn to be CPA's or Engineers. In the world of football they have earned their diplomas. In the eyes of the NFL Cam and Nick have earned Phd's and are ready to move on. Let them move on and support them. We'll be a different team next year and maybe more than we are even contemplating now. Keep in mind that the coaching carousel is just getting heated.

Personally, Next year I'm going to ram every victory down their throats because it will have happened without Cam. After all, how could this happen when Cam was the only thing we had according to the dunderheads critiqueing our team.

It will all be ok because we are AU.

If I'd asked you in the 3rd quarter of the Bama game if Cam should move on--right then--bet you would have said different. I don't know what your AU level of affiliation is, but you obviously don't get what being "An Auburn Man" is all about. We don't love and accept you one day while it suits us and then turn on you when it doesn't. That's some place else. Not Auburn.

Get off your high horse man. It is bc of my love for the " auburn family" that I think it would be best for auburn university ( notice I didn't say the auburn football team) that we be satisfied with the season we just had. You should ask yourself why an auburn football victory is more important than the reputation of our cherished institution.

I'm with you, AUTigerGirl... I don't believe Cam did anything to damage AU. If he had, I don't believe Chizik or Jacobs would have brought him in. And, I certainly don't think we ought to run and hide from the likes of Thayer Evans. Hey, if we are "damaged," then the damage has already been done! Just because Cam leaves won't stop Evans or any of the other sadistic minded journalists. But, if Cam came back, it would show them and everyone else a whole lot more than if he leaves.

I want Cam to do what is best for him. What is best for him will in the long run be best for AU. I'm surprised some of you haven't called for him to be kicked off the team right after the accusations came out... "to protect AU's reputation"! And, that's all there has been, as far as Cam and AU are concerned... just accusations... and not from the NCAA, but from idiot journalists (And I use that term loosely!).

I enjoyed Cam this year... I can enjoy Cam next year! Come back Cam!

Thanks, AUTigerGirl... I like your spirit.

  • I would rather see cam leave. that opinion has nothing to do with the media. i care less what the media says about auburn. i am solely thinking about 2012. i truly believe that 2012 will be a very good year for auburn. and i think it will be even more spectacular with a senior qb (trotter) who has had a year of experience under his belt. i would rather sacrifice a few wins in 2011 to have a spectacular year in 2012.

  • I don't understand some of you guys. First, I'm ok if Cam goes or if he stays. I'm an AU fan first and foremost and I'll be at every home game next year (God willing) just like I was when we were 5-7 in '08. But I find it ridiculous that you can believe than it would perpetuate suspicion of wrongdoing by AU if Cam returns. I think it would indicate quite the opposite. First, that Cam is not just about $$$$$$$$$$$$, and second that he is playing with a clean conscience. Our perception by the national media is not going to change just because Cam goes to the NFL, it's not an out of sight out of mind thing. I have full confidence in our coaching staff to utilize the talent that we have, and I believe we have considerable talent on the roster and certainly that will improve with the incoming class. Remember CGM O's have put up sick numbers with other QBs not named Cam Newton. If you know his philosophy, it is he builds the offense around the strengths of the QB. We'll be fine either way, I just don't get how it helps our image for Cam to leave. I just don't.

  • So you do not think someone is an Auburn Man if he thinks different from you. I will all ways be an Auburn Man . Cam and his family and been put through hell I just think t is a shame what has happened to him and to Auburn over last few months does not mean I think he did anythig wrong. I think Cecil was the problem and it would have been very hard for him to do the right thing over the next year.
