I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...
Taking off the orange/blue tinted glasses for a second, I can understand why we aren't ranked any higher right now. In other years, I can understand the argument. But this year, we lost our stud running back (Dyer), we only have 1 scholarship upperclassman on our O-line, we don't know who our QB is, we have 2 new coordinators, our D was very suspect last year, we lost 5 times last year by 14+ points, etc. From an outsider's perspective, there is a lot of uncertainty in Auburn right now.
That being said, I still think we finish this year with 10+ wins even with a young team. If that happens, we'll definitely get more respect in next year's preseason polls because almost our entire team will be back with another year of experience. Preseason polls aren't important. This isn't 2004 when all of the BCS conferences were considered relatively equal. The SEC has won 6 straight crystal footballs, so the conference will get plenty of respect. We will have plenty of opportunity to prove how good we really are.
Some teams get a pass every year in the preseason - Notre Dame being the most ridiculous example every year. But in the end, things will settle where they should for the most part.
