  • Good info. Although, the worst part of this article is that the offseason is only half over.

  • I doubt that Loeffler is mystified re his Q'Back starter. The door will be kept open until necessity closes it and if no one has broken through Frazier's grip on the job, Frazier will start. If Moseley is healthy, he has a chance. He's paid the price.
We can't put a quantity on how much Auburn is improved . but, I wouldn't stop the estimates short of being a lot better than Clemson. If Clemson thinks they can come into Atlanta and dance through this game, they're in for a surprise.
If Clemson does dance through this game, I wouldn't want to be an athlete that had to live with a head coach and two coordinators the rest of the season.
The only people that dread the approaching day are the folks that fear it. That's not Auburn's team, or the coaches.

  • Travis Blanks was the dest DB I saw last year. I was very disappointed that he didn't come to Auburn. I know we wanted him.

  • I will be shocked if our Defense doesn't look night and day from last year. I am not calling for a shutout or this or that, I just think it will be a swarming, attacking defense that will be trying to disrupt the backfield on virtually every play. We have the talent, depth, and experience to be good that very first game, with vast improvements throughout the year.

My biggest worry is 70-33. You know Clemson's defense wants to put that behind them. The only other time I can recall a BCS conference team getting beat down like that, is the two games Arkansas played against USC.

I think both teams show up ready to play. Whoever addresses their problems areas best will win this one. We should give them problems with our defense, if the offense can sustain some drives we should win this one.

....How can you forget when USC demolished OU 55-19 in the National Championship that Auburn should have been in?

I can't to see Dee Ford, Lemonier and Co. to tell Tahj Boyd every.single.time. after a sack......"hope you didn't spill any coffee on ya"

I was thinking, "How does that coffee taste censored?"

  • The reason Boyd had all day to throw is because we didn't try to pressure him. We played a coverage defense almost the entire game. The way to beat that offense is to pressure the QB and disrupt the timing. By sitting back and letting him throw we just gave that offense exactly what it wanted. I'm pretty sure BVG will NOT run the same scheme in September.

  • "I expect Auburn’s d-line to be pretty fired up to go after Boyd. He was sacked 30 times last year but not once by Auburn. He referred to the time he had to throw as being “back there drinking some coffee” in a postgame interview.

I don’t think that’s a demeaning comment -- pretty accurate if you ask me -- but that won’t stop Auburn from using it for motivation."

It should be used as motivation from moreso than the standpoint of "hey, he's ripping on us...we'll show him!" As you said, BM, it was pretty-accurate. It should motivate each player from a heart standpoint moreso than anything. Yea, I want them to want to hit him hard & clean...let him know that this isn't the same porous defense that he faced last year....the best way to do that is to get ultra serious about taking your game up about 2-3 levels. The talent is there.....I'm sure the motivation is there...for a lot of reasons! WAR EAGLE!!

  • I had a dream last night that Auburn started out pretty good, then Clemson poured the coal on. They beat us 48-13. (see our LSU, Arkansas, UGA, Bama games about 6 months ago). I also dreamed that Mississippi State gained that extra yard they couldn't get last year.

Even though we have two new coordinators and are installing a new offense and defense, Auburn fans were furious with the start and Chizik was on the hotseat.

I was glad to wake from that nightmare. I expect both those games to come down to the last drive this year.

My uncle looked at me like I was crazy Sunday when I told him Auburn would lose 3 games this year. I replied "We are recovering from the worst defense in Auburn history. You can't get it all back in one offseason."

    Maybe, just maybe, I'm wrong.

  • Haha. Those dreams are when I DON'T drink. lol.

I dropped down to three stars back when Coach Theodorus Roofus was guiding our defense through its darkest hours. Many readers didn't agree with me that he was not doing a very good job. They made all kinds of excuses on his behalf.

I pointed out that Coach Chizik, himself, was in his face yelling during the games. CGC wasn't congratulating him for a job well-done, I assure you.

Hot seat?...he just won a national championship...he was no where near the hot seat... Auburn finished up about where they started the season rank wise. Any "fan" who was mad at Chizik and wanted him gone is a moron. Any realistic person knew we weren't going to be great last year with losing major talent and the youth of the team.

Did Auburn have the worst defense ever last year and was it because they had the worst talent ever assembled in one year? Not Chizik's or Roof's doing. Last year was last year, and this year isn't going to be played by last years children. The kids have grown up a bit. A year under Yox is not to be discounted. It has been noted that a lot of weight has been gained. Well, not just weight gained, muscle and speed gained.
What happened to the mind set? Well, I'll bet that it didn't stay he mind set of losers. Our team is a year more mature physically and mentally, ready to play Auburn football. Tougher. Try to adjust. Last year two of the biggest losing games were to the best two teams in the entire United States. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to be that ashamed about either.
Of course,we'll have an attacking defense. VanGorder has said that very plainly that he wants down linemen in the oppositions backfield along withthe ball carriers. He has athletes that can attack much better with the years physical and mental growth denied Roof.
Everybody has a right to an opinion. A few will parrot yours. Many won't.
By the way, the only Auburn fans furious about last year and furious with Chizik don't count for much as they're dreamers too. Jacobs and Gogue are solid behind Chizik and I doubt that they dream much. Of course, that's just an opinion.

But also, if we come down to the last drive with Mississippi State, I'll be highly disappointed. I know they "play us tough", but they shouldn't be anywhere near Auburn. They suck, plain and simple, and shouldn't even be on the field with Auburn after the first half.

Until they can beat someone other than Ole Miss, I do not care about Mississippi State.

  • Auburn has been great for Chiz, Chiz has been great for Auburn, but you either keep winning or you get run out of town. There have been coaches that win a Natty and then are fired within a few years, why? They quit winning. This place was made Great before Chiz got here and it will be Great after Chiz leaves, it's up to Chiz on how long that will be. Not My Opinion, merely a fact!
