***VanGorder on film review said they played well in first half but too much of the things they did in the first game creeped in during the second half.
***VanGorder said the effort Demetruce McNeal showed on the field against MSU was special.
***VanGorder said getting better is a process and they have to stay on that road. He said having players step up as leader is a vital part of that process.
***VanGorder said they're not built to play a lot of press man coverage right now. He said they will continue to work on man coverage and hopes to use more of it down the line.
"I watched he 1-on-1's today and we've got to keep practicing that," VanGorder said.
***He said Auburn needs to really shore up its run defense, which is their biggest problem. He said it was mostly bad tackling in the first game. He said there were also some tackling issues against MSU.
***VanGorder said he wants more production out of his defensive tackles. Also said they need to be better in the secondary.
"All three phases -- secondary, linebackers and defensive line -- we have a lot of work to do," he said.
***VanGorder said he wanted to process of improving on defense to be faster than it has been but he's not surprised based on what he saw in practices and scrimmages.
***VanGorder said he's not happy having his safeties lead the team in tackles. He said the defensive linemen have to be able to get off blocks and make plays.
