Johnson cost himself a shot at the all-time best title by leaving early. I personally think he would have made a huge difference in 2003. Similar to Darvin Adams this year.

It was a different era, but Jimmy "Red" Phillips was a consensus All American who played both ways on the 1957 National Championship Team. I'm not old enough to remember seeing him play, but he was legendary in my parent's era.

It's Walter Reeves folks, by a comfortable margin. His trucking of Deon Sanders in the Sugar Bowl was an all-timer.

Lawyer was a receiver.

I have seen Reeves and Lutz play. Reeves was a better blocker but Lutz has the hands.

Another TE who deserves mention was Fred Baxter.

Reeves was a good one, but it's certainly not by a comfortable margin. It's hard to compare the two in the drastically different offensive systems. Reeves was a more traditional TE than Lutzie, but to me that's what gives Lutzie the edge since he is far more diverse than any TE we've ever had.

To me, Lutz is a great receiver, but an average blocker at best. JMO. Don't get me wrong, thank goodness we have him or this would have been a longer year.

I saw Jimmy play for three years and Lutzie is about as close to him in making big plays as they come. "Big Red" was also one hell of a defensive end which would be the only reason I would give the edge to him.

Lutz reminds me of Dallas Clark. I think in the nfl he will be able to split out sometimes. He is the kind of player that you can move around. It will be hard for linebackers to match up with him.
