#BMATT247: Preaching patience

  • Nice to see there are still folks out there who are either on the wrong boards or so skilled at coaching that its hard to believe they have time to break from their pre-BCS bowl responsibilities to address such petty matters. Is that you, Nick? Les? Steve?

  • Disappointed in his decision but he is a teenager. If he chooses to spurn one of the best defensive coords in the country to follow a recievers coach then so be it. More recruits are likely to follow but some new will sign. I'm exicted about the possibilities.

  • As bad as we are in the need of LBs Reuben should of been CGM first stop considering he lives in Auburn. LB should be our number one priority. Bates is gone and from what I've seen we have no one else.

  • Step one on the incline of the program would be for you to leave it.

I have one question, since RF lives in Auburn and CGM is residing in Auburn, whey was there not a personal visit, he seemed to have time to go to Hunstville, before the news of TT being released was made, could it be CGM was not a fan of RF, not his type of guy? No inside info, just seems a little strange that you don't visit in person your top commit who lives in town?

Just my opinion but I would not immediately reward an RF ultimatum to keep CTT or else with an instant visit. I would visit those that hung with AU and handle it in a business like manner. We would love to have RF but not because of any threat. Brian is correct in that CGM and staff will have time to work with RF once he has a little time to assess the situation. Time will tell and RF has classwork to do before he suits up for any school.

  • Getting rid of TT was critical. It was just a matter of time before he got us in big trouble with the NCAA, I just hope it's not too late. I hate to loose Foster but it is worth it. In my eyes, Taylor represents exactly what is wrong with our program right now- no discipline. CGM has come to town as the sheriff, and that is what Auburn Football needs right now!!

If you have to ask why I love Auburn so much...never mind

  • I think were all aware where talent will get you 3 wins. If trooper is a bad virus then I respect the decision. Auburn has been fine winning with 3 star talent. I do want lawson he's humble and level headed

  • I' m with you, Bryan..one or two recruits does not a successful team make. A beautiful diamond is created by a"patient" process of just the right amount of time, heat, and pressure. Reuban can be a part of this AU Diamond that Gus is creating--if he's willing to. And I believe that this staff can really take him to the next level. We are going to win..no doubt! And all of us
Would like for him to be a part of it. Reuban, just know that all that glitters is not gold; it might be that Diamond.

Thanks, Steve. Best comments I've read in days. I don't know about you, but I've had about as much drama from RF as I can stand. Maybe they get him back, maybe they don't. I'm not losing any sleep over it one way or the other.

  • I would not just assume Gus considered Trooper part of the problem. From what I understand, he fired everyone. There was nobody kept. He took people out all the way to Yox. So, don't just automatically take it as Gus thinking he was part of the problem. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. I think stating anything further on it is close to speculation at this point. He didn't keep BVG or anybody else. I really think Gus thought it was time to clean house completely. Sometimes, you just have to start over completely.

  • Last year, everyone thought that Zeke Pike was one of those recruits "we had to have". We all saw how that worked out. Maybe Rueben isn't right for Auburn. Gus has two months to figure it out, and I'm sure he's already started the process. If he changes his mind, and re-commits, that's great, but we don't need another Zeke Pike scenario anyway.

  • Basing my reactions on the whims of a teenager would be downright silly. I am never surprised when young man or woman makes a dubious decision. That's how life is learned.

  • Good morning party people!I know there are several Auburn family members who have split the fence and screamed for a new coaching staff but now want to keep this guy or that from the previous staff. I understand that we all feel attachments to these coaches. If we truly desire a culture change, which I feel Malzahn does, it's best to cleans house with a swift stroke. Like it or not every coach on this staff was involved in this debacle. Though some may have played bigger roles they all have earned their walking papers. As far as Rueben Foster goes, the kid is one hell of a talent. Potentially a next level kind of guy. I would love to have him at Auburn. Having said that, to say this. It is important for the new coach to draw his line in the sand. You cannot let 18 year old kids dictate how you do business. For christ sake that is letting the inmates run the asylum. I have no inside information about what recently went on with the football team but, that feels like a familiar well traveled path i'd rather not go back down. Let's not give up on Reuben and hope he comes back into the fold for the right reasons. Come on down Reuben we'd love to have ya' but if you feel somewhere else is a better opportunity pursue that.

If RF main or only reason for coming to AU is due to TT, then he was never coming to AU for the right reason to begin with. Coaches are always changing in this business... we need committed AU men not committed TT men or committed to any other coach for that reason! RF should buy some long sleeves for that tat now lol

And if I have learned anything in my 68 years it is that why you do what you do is more important than what you do much of the time. Spot on. He has to come here because he wants to BE here.
