  • I'm not sure I get why the University has these guys out representing them. Either there has to be something we don't know that is giving these guys an expectation they will be retained or whoever is making the decision to send them thinks that the possibility of them bad mouthing the school to recruits or talking to recruits about taking them along to their next gig is less of a risk than having nobody on the road. It's discouraging because if whoever they hire doesn't have complete control and is forced to retain some of these guys we're just going to get more of the same.

Nobody is going to force a new coach to hire any of these current assistants. Guys like Trooper, Luper, Thigpen and Boulware have a lot of pride and are doing the job they are paid to do. They know it's unlikely they'll be back at Auburn. Here's what Luper said about it...

“There’s going to be some changes at Auburn over the coming months, but there are a lot of things that are going to stay the same,” Luper said. “We want to pass that message on to the recruits that are committed to Auburn. There will be a new head coach, but there will be a lot of things that remain the same. I’m talking about the people, the traditions and Auburn itself. It’s a great university, and the football program has a rich tradition of success.

“Ultimately, it was a personal decision of mine, and I felt like it was the right thing to do for Auburn.”

For the younger guys, it's a great opportunity to get their first taste of being a full-time assistant and going on the road recruiting players and building relationships with high school coaches.

This ideology is becoming a thing of the past. I applaud Coach Luper

I totally agree!! I can only see these coaches trying to stay in touch with recruits to help them wherever they (coaches) may end up. I cannot see a benefit to US. I hate to criticize these coaches but it sure looks fishy to me.

I guess I was just being a little pre-coffee cynical. My apologies if I questioned anyone's integrity or competence; it was a little uncalled for.

  • Maybe it is because thees guys are professionals and are continuing to do their jobs inspite of a bad situation. I myself applaud them and we as fans should appreciate the fact that someone is still out there representing Auburn in front of these recruits. That is the Auburn way; not bad mouthing when you don`t know what or why they do this. Thansk to these MEN, Auburn still has a recruiting base. If you hate to critize someone then it would be best not to do it.

  • Pride, loyalty, dedication......rare these days. Congrats to the coaches participating as WELL as the recruits who are holding this top class together and keeping their promises. Real men. So, where are the OC and DC in all of this? Is there a restriction keeping them away? .......and a heartfelt thank you to each of the coaches and recruits from your dedicated fans. WDE

BM, I know you can't speculate on specifics as far as which (if any) of the assistants might be back, but have you or PM gotten any sense what-so-ever that any of them might be retained? What I mean is.. I think that any coach that comes in would be foolish not to at least take a look at coaches like Trooper, Luper, Thigpen, Grimes, etc.. so what do you guys think?

Also, I saw where you said that you haven't seen BVG around lately... Have any of the others been seen? I REALLY hope we get to keep the four coaches that I mentioned... or at least a couple of them.

It will entirely depend on who Auburn hires as head coach if any of the current assistants are retained. My gut is that none will be but we'll see.

I haven't seen BVG or Loeffler since the Iron Bowl. Doesn't mean they haven't been around. I haven't been at the athletic complex as much this last week. I have either seen the rest or heard they've been around.
