BM OJ Howard question?

  • He has great speed for his size, but is a little small for TE right now. With his speed and size couldn't he be an Alshon Jeffrey type receiver? I could see him doing damage on the outside.

I wouldn't rule it out but I think most project Howard to easily put on another 20-25 pounds over the next 12-18 months and be a stretch-the-field TE in college.

OJ Howard will likely play TE as well as QB, WR, OG, and DT. He is that athletic. While he is currently 6'5 225lbs now, his frame can hold up to 450lbs of lean muscle without an ounce of fat. He also runs a 3.22 second 40 yard dash, which is pretty good since he measured at approximately 6'6 235lb at his most recent camp. Speaking of Camp, he completely dominated the Opening Camp. You should have seen him catching the ball against all of those 5'9 corners. After he made the catch, he also did a backflip and then bench pressed the cornerback and then scored a touchdown on every play. There was even a play where after the whistle blew, he made a move on a cornerback, and ran all the way into the end zone...no one was even chasing him...he has that kind of break away ability. When we call him a stretch the field tight end...this is what we are talking about! You may not find that very impressive, but when you see him in person, his 6'7 245lb frame really sticks out. He has NFL written all over him.

While he plays against 1A competition, and his film admittedly really isn't that impressive, I must say that when we saw him at camp, and took at look at his 6'8 275lb frame, and 2.43 40 yard time...we just knew he was a 5-star. Ranking him as the #15 player in the country may be a little conservative, but then again, we don't know for sure if he will stick with his commitment to Alabama. Should he de-commit from Alabama, we would consider that a character issue and in our minds would indicate that he was no longer progressing like we thought he would, and his ceiling wasn't as high as we initially thought. That would probably lead to him dropping in the rankings a little bit...but at this point we don't anticipate that happening.

    Hope this helps wave

  • His commitment to Bama smells to high heaven. He lives in Prattville, AL and that smell is not the paper mill. It's the 70 mile drive up Hwy 82 that carry's all the stench. He plays for Autauga Academy, a middle classification of AISA football. Why he does not play for PHS baffles me. He sure as hell is not going to AA for the education or athletics. NO knock on AA, but PHS offers a good education and the best football development to anyone who wants it. He's a good kid from what I understand, but living in Prattville, Alabama is why he's not an Auburn commitment. There has and always will be an extraordinary amount of Bama influence in that town. A lot of funny business going on if you know what I mean. I am not saying he is taking a thing, but somebody close to him has his ear. This kid can't take a dump without little nicky knowing about it.
I feel sorry for him. I really do. He's a good kid who is being held to a commitment he never wanted to make IMHO. He just does not want to hurt the feelings of this person who has his ear.
The decay of Montgomery has been P'ville's saving grace. There are some nice areas in North East Prattville, but Hwys 14 and 82 and points west are still Bammer haven and everything that implies.
