This is music to my ears. This guy will help change the culture of AU football... back to the way it should be. Great article PM!
This is the coach's profile that I've been waiting on. This is the steel, this is the structure that future championships are built upon. We will definitely be more physical, stronger and quicker this year but nothing like we'll be when all the players have at least a year under Russell's tutelage.
In my mind, the younger players, especially the redshirt freshmen, were cheated out of a year of physical development. Where they should have been bigger and stronger through physical workouts and good nutrition than when they entered school, that structure was no longer in place to help them get there. They're basically a year behind where they should be.
Reading Russell's attitude and approach, I definitely think that will change and change quickly. Like he said, it depends on the individual athlete's desire to succeed. The tools are now there, there's no excuse not to excel. I definitely love the lunch table idea. In addition to providing the proper nutrition that they need, it's also another opportunity to bond as a team. Russell may turn out to be CGM's best hire on the staff. I am so ready to see those players in blue jersey's come onto the field with the attitude that no matter how good the other team thinks they are, we're going to show you what a great team looks and we're going to kick your butt.

Great article PM. This is exactly the kind of culture change needed for the program. Love the perspective - "are you interested or are you committed." This kind of mental focus should make for great results on the field. Also love the nutrition focus. Coach is building these young men from the inside out. That is what they need!
