Auburn has offered a 4-star RB from the state of Florida.

  • Another signing day commit...why is there a negativity associated with that?

I up-voted you Trojan Tiger, but at the same time, I remember an early commit that decided in very late December that UAT was the place for him. That was after he had virtually stopped our recruiting of other RB's when he committed early. I guess the key is "commit," which doesn't mean the same thing it did when we were younger.

If you have to ask why I love Auburn so much...never mind

  • I agree, things have turned into publicity stunts with hats and so forth. I can understand why kids wait though, if you commit early and stay commited they don't get the same coverage as uncommitted signing day kids.

Frankly, I'd rather have a signing day commitment to whatever school he chooses, than to have a kid commit early only to flip on us near the end. IMO

What did I miss. The commit was Auburn's offer to the player. The player has made no commitment. I don't believe there is an example of Auburn withdrawing an offer after it has been made and acted upon by the athlete. I don't see any negativity here.

  • Well, I did miss something. Auburn has made offers to athletes who have commited to other schools. Accepted practice by all. Doctors used to bleed people suffering from sickness with no medical cure in sight at that time. When doctors did that, lawyers were writing things like the Declaration Of Independence, the Constitution, the Emancipation Proclamation, and a host of other famous documents. Now it's turned around. Times change. But, Auburn has never withdrawn an offer after it has been accepted, and the player in this story has not made any commitment.

  • I think it is better to wait until signing day to commit. If you wait, you do not have to worry about psychotic fans saying you are a bumb and a liar if you have a change of heart. However, when players wait, psychotic fans say that they are too egotistical.

In response to your comment I would ask why would any school make more offers, 4 times as many, as they could honor if, like Alabama, they were not ready to rescind offers. If Auburn offered three running backs, and two commited and that is all they would take what happens to the "non-committable" offer to the third we hear about on this site? To me that is no different than the student- athlete changing his mind in mid-stream. The announcement of these offers, the following of them on sites like this and the flipping of athletes is common in many cases particularly in the SEC where it is well known that depth and development of top prospects is necessary to win big. Auburn has flipped many in the past, it is just this year we lost the number one recruit to our biggest rival.

Trojan, you are harping on a subject long past. If you're going to feel negativity everytime Auburn makes an offfer, you're really going to feel a lot of negativity because offering is part of recruiting and witrhout recruiting, fold the tent. You and the other cry babies need to grow up. Auburn doesn't withdraw offers after the athlete accepts the offer, many times taking him after serious injury. It seems to me that is a lot more positive than negative. Some yahoo that was thought to be Auburn bound, several weeks ago ended up at UAT. Tough. Quit crying, it isn't Trojan and it isn't Auburn. Yeah, some youngsters are making a big deal out of announcing. Don't fret. If a five star has the world watching him put on his Auburn Cap, great. Coaches and players will fix that ego when he shows up and Troy Athletes are familiar with that scene. Most of us are happy with kids that can draw big crowds when they announce. Harbingers of good things to come. Don't try to remake the world. Girls that gave it up in grade school; wear white wedding gowns. Nick and Urban are cloned every day. And you can all get together and give me down votes. I don't care. Most men that count in this world perform for effect, not stars.

Wonder how many kids we've told that to
