Auburn fans- why do we continue to settle?

  • Here's why. As a 40 yr Auburn fan- we don't have the expectations

  • How are we settling? The only coach available that is "guaranteed" to be better than the ones on the list is Petrino and there are numerous reasons he is not the top choice for the committee. Please tell me what realistic choice you think we should go after that would not be settling?

  • Who available besides BP would you consider a big time hire? I do not think there are any "Big Name" coaches available. The big name coaches that are currently employed are not going anywhere.

  • I would say any candidate that had actual head coaching experience ( if I recall that was the criteria that JJ layed out in the press conference). Charlie Strong comes to mind-don't really know if we talked to him or not since it was leaked that we did but he denied. I'll support Auburn no matter what happens or who is hired.

  • Why is it that some of you guys have such massive inferiority complexes? We don't have this mantality like bama or some other winning program blah blah blah. The people who are saying this stuff all disregard the facts of who actually gets hired at top programs and becomes a success. I won't go over them again because they are listed everywhere and were pinned to the board at one point. All I'm saying is good grief people just because bama is winning right now does not mean that our only answer is suddenly a "proven" head coach when the vast majority of top head coaches out there got their start at the school they have in the top 25. How the rare exception of people hiring "proven" head coaches is the only thing acceptable for Auburn when nearly every comparable program out there has gone the other route is laughable. Just because Auburn may hire a coordinator does not mean they are settling. Hell, not long ago Georgia fans wanted their "proven" head coach out and Smart in. Educate yourselves.

  • What troubles me is we think the girl who was cute in HS whose now over 300lbs is the one we should marry because everyone wanted her in HS. Never mind she has 3 kids by 3 men and doesn't treat people well. At some point you have to stop chasing the dream. BP is a good coach but not the end all be all. If we hire Smart or Gus we can still win championships. Heck we won one with a 5-19 coach. It takes players and the right coach. No coach catches passes, runs TDs or tackles. The teams that win do so because of players that are managed properly by their coaches. No coach alone wins championship contrary to what the Bamas say.

Here's why. As a 40 yr Auburn fan- we don't have the expectations to win NC's like our rival does. We are not willing to financially commit to winning like our rival is. We don't expect to have a top 5 recruiting class like our rival does. You say, they are Alabama, we are Auburn and one has nothing to do with the other. I say you are wrong- it has everything to do with who we are and who we want to be. The bottom line is that we have a lame duck AD who won't be around much longer, we have a former coach and some Good Ole Boys that still impose their will on decision making in the athletic program, we may be looking at some form of NCAA penalties regarding the Memphis thing, there was little interest in this job from the big names that were floated out by the media types, no established coach wants to come in and have to compete with a juggernaut program like Alabama in the same state, in the same conference, in the same recruiting area. We have fans who think BVG is a good defensive coach and would be willing to hire him back after coaching the worst defensive team in 40 years- his defense gave up an average of 28.3pts per game against a schedule that included LT, NMST, AL AM. All of this explains why we would settle for KS as a first yr coach - because WE ARE AUBURN!!!

This has got to be a joke.

It's been cleared up, Jacobs said nothing about HC experience. I think Smart would at least be on par with Strong.

"you're so vain, I'll bet you think this post is about you, don't you? Don't you?"
