  • Rod and Stan are what kept me sane during the worst of times this year. They didn't sugar coat things and as many times that they complained about calls, they would admit when the refs got one right. I loved it when Stan just couldn''t bear it anymore and would melt down. Same with Rod. I love it when they were critical of our team, cause they were right. I don't want a bunch of party line guys out there calling the game. I live in KY and trying to find them on the internet on game days became an obession.

Would now maybe be a good time to take advantage of this clean break and replace ROD B and Stan W. Great guys im positive, I just never cared much for them as a team on air.. Am I the only one. I bet Charlie is ready to come back. Fire Away

I grew up and loved our guys in the 60s (can't think of both of their names, the color guy's name was Charlie Davis)

I remember Buddy Rutledge in the early 60's. He was called the boomer because of his voice. He was a former player at Auburn who contracted polio and was confined to a wheel chair when he was the voice of Auburn. There were no elevators at the stadium and freshman players were assigned the task of carrying him and his chair up the stadium steps to the press box. He had opportunities to do network games but declined in order to stay in the Birmingham/Auburn area. He will always be my favorite broadcaster.

  • Yes. You have got to be the only one. Hard to believe your for real. Certainly not the legend we had before but you won't find that again. They do a good job. Even when I watch on TV or live at JH I listen to the radio for their insight/info. "My time is up, I thank you for yours".

Yes! thanks for the memory jogger. I started listening to Buddy and Charlie in 1960 and listened to every game day broadcast religiously until I started going to games in the Fall of '69.

  • As other posters have stated, it's hard to replace a legend, and I think Bramblett does a pretty good job overall. White has really good insight and often calls things before they happen, but he is too much of a homer when it comes to calls/non-calls by the officials, which to me sounds like excuse-making/whining at times.

Although Jim Fyffe was definitely a homer for AU, he was absolutely wonderful as a broadcaster. In football, the most important things to relate are down, distance, time, score and position on the field, and he constantly told us this. His true passion and excitement were icing on the cake. Actually, I think he was even better at calling basketball games, which are extremely difficult to broadcast well. He was just terrific and is sorely missed.

With respect to Eli Gold, I really enjoyed listening to him broadcast NASCAR races back before every race was televised. I thought he was excellent at it. He is not a good football announcer in my view, however (see comments above about down, distance, time, score and position). I grew up listening to sports on the radio and still enjoy it a lot, but if the announcer's bad it is not enjoyable.

I catch myself not listen to radio as I did in past .....Glad you brought it up...Seems as they try to duplicate the past instead of doing their own thing....not crazy about Stan....to many " what an awful call"...But at same time I have nothing to compare them to but one of the greatest in JF...War Eagle
