Arkansas still scares me

  • They got blown out today, that's true.

But lost in the score I the fact that they still put up over 500 yards of offense, ran 99 plays, and had 25 first downs. It was three big time crucial turnovers that kept them at 10 points.

Their defense obviously had no answers for Manziel (who now has 15 TDs in the last three games). But do we have the ability to take advantage of their poor defense? Not sure we do at this point.

But what scares me is that we aren't likely going to do well in a shoot out. If Arkansas ends up with 515 yards against us, we're probably in trouble. For all the disarray going on there, that offense still has some life to it. Makes me very nervous.

Hopefully this will be a coming out party for the offense and the defense will play like they did last week. Anything short of BOTH of those things happening, and we might be in trouble.

And if both things DO happen, we should come out with our first conference win.

  • I agree.Hopefully the D picks up where they left off from the LSU game and just maybe the Arky D is what Frazier needs to have a breakout game.

Excellent analysis...I share the exact same concerns.

  • If the Tigers can handle a spread offense like they handled LSU's style of O, then I'm absolutely at a different level of optimism than I am now.

Agreed! Much more difficult to defend Arky offense, especially if we are not getting pressure on the QB. Offense will have to put points on the board....it will not be a defensive standoff like last week!

We'll get pressure. Arky OL is really struggling. Let's just hope we can hold on the back end. One thing about Tyler Wilson is he will get up and continue to sling it around. His ball didn't look nearly as good in the bad weather today.

  • To jadennis: Agree!
I wasn't sure anyone else thought the same about Arky...I'm concern about our D facing a passing team...hopefully this will be the game we have an offense.

There OL is lacking primarily on the rush game but Wilson can improvise. Slants, drags across the middle and and occasional QB scrabble for significant yards, has been a real weakness for AU the past few years. Wilson can extend plays, we have not been able to do that since Cam. We match up much better with a run oriented offense. The one thing that might come into to play over the week is the mind set of their team and the constant rumors of losing the HC mid season. Offense will have to produce a minimum of 24 points!

    Agreed, J.

This has dink and dunk, spread our defense and LB's all over the place...written all over it. Something we haven't done well in years.

We'll HAVE to score. Score often. If Frazier is going to have a coming out party, this game HAS to be it. We should be able to run it versus the hogs, but if we can't throw it, they'll just key on the RB's and we're toast.

    We shall see....

  • I'm in full agreement with Jadennis. Given our track record this season thus far against hurry up/spread offenses (Clemson/ULM) I think this game will not be the easiest for our defense. I think our defense will be its strongest against teams like LSU that allow our defense to stay in a base 4-3 for the majority of the game instead of having to mix in Nickle/Dime packages. But just because they lost 58-10, our fan base surely can't suddenly think this game is a lead pipe lock. Our defense will need to play more like it did against LSU and not like it did against ULM/Clemson, and our offense will have to come to life in order for us to win this game.

  • For the first time AU's offense should get healthy on the other team. If Trae Mason gets just nine carries againist this defense CSL need to be whipped with a bamboo stick.
