Are we better off than we were 4 years ago?

  • Ok .. with this political question being asked a lot, I thought I'd ask it on here. Outside of the BCSNC, which I am great-full I paid the money to go see, is this team better then Tuberville's last year's team? I hate to say it, but they almost remind me of the same team. Personally, I think we should be farther along then we are. I think the reasons we won in 2010 were this: Cam Newton, Gus Malzhan, and Tracy Rocker. Cam, well he speaks for himself. Gus was able to create enough points to keep us in the game. Tracy Rocker developed our D line and no one ran on us. Personally I like Gene Chizik. But without 2010, he may not have made it through last year. What we've seen these last couple of weeks is utter garbage.

  • I do not believe we are. We are headed in the wrong direction IMO. Coach Chizik's record at Auburn is 30-12, but the 14-0 season in which we came from behind 7 times led by the greatest player to play QB in college certainly helped. I'd say without Cam Newton at QB that season is much like the two sandwiched around it. I know we can't play the hypothetical game because the 14-0 season did happen and we did win the Natty and I am BEYOND glad we did. With that said, imagine if his record was something like 24-15 and with this 0-2 start. Say that 0-2 ends up turning into 1-4 - and that very well could happen. Would he make it through the end of the season? I'm not inclined to think so.

  • Yes because we have our National Championship. If we don't have another winning season for 5 years, I'll take it because we have our MNC!!!

Do not agree with you at all.

Take the Cam, Gus, Tracy Rocker stuff and wad it up and throw it away. Just because some network nimrod spouts that crap doesn't mean you should. Chizik brought all three of them to Auburn. Without him, they dont come, without them we dont eat all the tostitos. AND WE DID!

Winning AU's second NC, (this time NOT on probation), is priceless. The value of the AU brand was made greater by what happened. If you think otherwise, then you aren't Auburn.

Now, if we're actually assessing where the program is headed, then that is a legitimate question, unlike the above crap. I'm not sure that we have unity on the staff and we wont know whether we're dealing with another Tony, ( I just rolled off a park bench), Franklin situation or not. I think we need to let the season play out and evaluate it over the course of the season. It will likely become very clear before all is said and done, how things need to proceed.

Everyone just needs to take a powder. Use this place to vent, (as opposed to kicking the dog or mouthing off to your bammer coworker), and do whatever it is you do. Be happy, Be proud, be Auburn.

Whether we're 0-12 or 12-0, doesn't take away or add to who you are. I hate to lose but I tell you, you act no better than the typical 'toothless, two twinkie eating' bammer calling into slimebaum when you whine like a little bitch about the team. Chizik either has this under control or he doesn't. If he doesn't, there's probably nothing that's ultimately going to save him. If he does, then you're going to feel pretty stupid when we start making progress and winning some games.

You do a lot of talking without answering the question. Do you think we are in better shape yes or no? You sound like Obama and giving the answer of incomplete.

  • I dont know how I can be any more specific than to say that winning a national championship is priceless. The value of the program has been increased. PERIOD. We absolutely are better than four years ago. Exponentially so.

Whether we move forward in the direction we're going is totally unrelated to the fact above and has no business being assessed after week 2. After the season, it will probably be clear if we need to do anything and if so, what.

All of this wailing and gnashing of teeth is pointless just now. If we're not making any progress by the end of the season, get blown out by bammer, uga, lsu, arkie, etc.... then there wont be much doubt about the future direction. If we make steady progress, win our share, then maybe everyone can walk it back off the ledge. Let the season play out. Let the players play and the coaches coach. Plenty of time after the season to figure it out.

  • Absolutely better. We are the closest we have been to have a full (and balanced) roster of quality players. That roster is full of freshman and sophomores, but it at least full. We're competing with an absolute beast of a recruiter in bama/saban and winning that battle. It's only a matter of time before our age/experience is putting us in position to compete on the field as well.
