Anyone Want To Explain Why It's Always AU?

  • I count that one too. It's sad to see the national media and fans of the elites (and others who view their schools as our betters) rationalize us out of it. We must be strong and ignore our detractors. The retractions will always be on page A-12 and the media any more and the bloggers are just idiots.

  • The point many people miss is that we are constantly WRONGLY ACCUSED. That is the difference. I see the media tip toe over other subjects till it can't be ignored. Its not the same with us. Want an example. Miami has one of the worse confirmed laundry list in college football history and it is mostly a mute point. I saw a Newton slam again just last week. Something has to give....

Last year I was so overwhelmed by all the reports of evil doing at Auburn. Even I though crap at least one of these has to be true. (Was Tubby Cheating?) But no, of the hundreds of accusations not even one was substantiated. Name one program that has sustained as many un-substantatied rumors reported as fact in the media!!!

Like I have said before... The Never To Yield Foundation Was Started For A Reason.

It was never reported as fact...thats what the term "allegedly" was used for....do you just expect the huge potential stories that have surfaced to just be pushed aside and not put in the public eye? Hell, the bagman story basically WAS pushed under the rug. Again, you ask what other program had had so many alleged wrongdoings pinned on them and complain that no one gets the beat put on them like Auburn does. Thats because you are a fan of Auburn and only care about Auburn...stories break on other teams all the time, but you domt care about those teams so it doesn't bother you. Look at it from the view jadennis was talking about. If Mark Ingram's mother asked for 180000 from a school and it wasn't a huge deal, all Auburn fans would have a stroke. Also, you would sit there and say "You know there is no way in hell Mark didn't know his mom asked for money." It all boils down to the bias in the fan's mind. Jadennis is 110% correct, once again.

I don't blame "Auburn", but here's who I do blame....

Professor Gundlach Cecil Newton Mike McNeil Shaun Kitchens Antonio Goodwin Dakota Mosely Eric Smith Mike Dyer Varez Ward (allegedly)

I blame them and no one else.

They created the stories with which our good name was dragged through the mud by sensational, "if it bleeds it leads" media.

Does ESPN hate Ohio State? No, Jim Tressel made some choices. Does SI hate UCLA? No, some kids made some choices. Does Yahoo! hate Miami? No, some guy had a vendetta and ran his mouth. Does ESPN hate Rich Rodriguez and Michigan? Nope, he and his staff made some choices. Does the whole world hate Penn State? Nope, several men made several horrible choices. Does ESPN or Yahoo! hate Oregon? No, Chip Kelly made some choices.

Do any of these outlets hate Auburn? Nope, Professor Gundlach, Cecil Newton, Mike McNeil, Shaun Kitchens, Antonio Goodwin, Dakota Mosely, Eric Smith, Mike Dyer, Varez Ward made some choices.

All of these people made choices that created the stories that were amplified and sensationalized.

Regardless of who spread the rumors, leaked the info, etc, they and they alone are to blame for making the mistakes in the kind of media world we live in, and their universities paid the price.

Agree with you on the "hate" comments. But the AU problem stems from the "love" of UAT. Their negatives are diminished or ignored. When it's a UAT problem, the "never happened" comments of their fanbase is honored by the media AU's negatives are over-dramatized and pulverized. The media encourages the UAT fanbase to participate in keeping negative AU comments before the public, even though they many times are pure lies -- like their gambling expert alumnus, Moore and others did in the Newton saga. Once AU innocence is proclaimed, there is generally no comment, no apology and/or denial. Agree that all these individuals you listed are primarily the blame. Also, for the most part, they must pay the ultimate penalty. But don't agree on "them and no one else." AU needs to take some responsibility for the association with such and try harder to purge or avoid trouble makers. But we will never be able to eliminate them all. Mistakes do happen by us all. It would be nice to have balanced and fair media. It's not going to happen. Free press doesn't guarantee fairness.

  • I don't see why it isn't just this simple: sportswriters get paid to blow everything out of proportion no matter who's egg gets fried. If you are in some AD's pocket you get the good exclusives, so you might favor them. But if that lands you outside a major pot-boiler, you get it big time from your editor or sponsor. Honesty, integrity, and an unbiased approach are not generally the hallmarks of reporting these days, otherwise there would be no Fox news or MSNBC. At this end of the table there is uat and their boy Finescum.

I was always taught that everything's on the wheel anyway. Of course I, too, live in Texas. Hey, is that smoke? Honey, is something burning!!??

There have been a lot of really good points made...but let me just add one more vent...uh...I mean point...uh...I mean clarification....as one who USED to live in TEXAS...

Living there in Texas for 11 years I grew to become less and less of a bama hater and more of a SEC lover cause I was so starved for real football coverage...and even REAL pork BBQ...this was well before the advent of the Internet . However, it took me less than 11 minutes being back in this State for me to morph back into to the UAT Hater Numero Uno that all good Auburn children hope to be...I feel there were three reasons for this...
    1) Making the trip to Walmart to purchase needed items after the move,
    2) Living in such close proximity to bama'ham (that's what we called B'ham in the old days),
    3) Listening to and reading the local news media

Simply put...the media is biased because we are all biased...and that's they way it should be. That's my story and I'm stick'n to it! dramaqueen

And all those players at Alabama made choices that created stories that were not amplified and were not senstionalized.Go figure.

The REC still thrives and anything, true or not, will be magnified by them via press.
UA absolutely cannot stand not having the "upper hand" or being "big brother" As a result,
any misstep Auburn makes (few and far between) is blown out of proportion while missteps made by UA are "overlooked" and dismissed as "minor"

What we have to do as Auburn Fans is not get caught up in the static noise our there and just keep focussed on what WE have and what we do. I'm "All In" are you???
