An Auburn moment...I think...my bad?????

  • I took off work early yesterday to get in a couple of hours of fishing in the Intracoastal Waterway (Jacksonville, FL). So after fishing and only catching throw backs, I decided to go by my local Fresh Market and pick up some sea bass for dinner. I get a few other food items and am standing in the checkout line. I have on my orange and blue Auburn fishing shirt with a 10 year old Auburn cap. As I'm unloading my basket I hear this LOUD "WAR EAGLE!!!" So loud I'm sure it was heard throughout the store. I turn to respond with my enthusiastic "WAR EAGLE" and I'm flabbergasted.....There stands this gentleman about 6'5"+ with a great big smile and wearing a Bama hat and jersey. I smile back and with as much enthusiasm he shouted I shouted "ROLL TIDE". After a few moments of discussing with Steve (a really good guy) football we left our separate ways. There are some good Bammers out there.

  • There may be good bammers out there that are perfectly capable of having a reasonable conversation with, and those are a welcome find. But it's never appropriate to use that kind of language. Especially shouting r*** t*** in public.

    I've got too much Auburn in me to act like bammer trash.

    You know, I've been contemplating starting a topic about just this. I've got some really good friends in my neighborhood who are Alabama grads. In fact, of the 400 homes here there are four Auburn families and 5 for bama. Several of us have discussed "taking back" our rivalry from the minions. You know what I mean....all the idiots that never set foot on either campus. Yes, Alabama probably has a 5 to 1 advantage in the "minion" population. They admit this and truthfully a little embarrassed about it, but Auburn has a share too. Truth is, there are just as many Alabama graduates that hate what's become of this rivalry over the past several years as much as we do! Not sure how we go about this, but it's time....past time for it to happen! There has to be a way.

    Any ideas how we might go about this?

    Agreed 100%, I thought that the alumni of both schools let the bwops ( bammers with out papers ) hijack this rivalry ( to it's dismay ) years ago and we need to take it back for the good of college football and our state. Most of the hate spews from the pieholes of the uneducated. Now, I'm not saying you can't be a fan of one school or the other but to listen to bwops continuously put down Auburn University ( a school in which they never attended and know nothing about ) because of football is disgusting. Most Auburn fans are alumni, family of alumni, students, or very close friends of alumni, most uat fans are not, they are bwops. They live their lives vicariously through a football team of a university that they have never attended. Let's put some real class back into this rivalry and take it back ( I'm just not sure how to go about it when you deal with the likes of updykes). - WDE
