that going into the dead period we only have three assistant coaches and we've lost valuable time in recruiting????
In 2006 Mal Moore knew that Saban was interested in the bammer job but wouldn't publicly accept it until his NFL season ended. Because of recruiting, Moore thought he couldn't wait four weeks to hire a coach so he offered the job to Rich Rod (and possibly Leavitt before that). Unfortunately for the rest of the SEC, RR got cold feet and decided to stay in Morgantown. Humiliated, MM felt he had no choice but to wait for Saban.
Moral of the story ... Better to wait three weeks and make the 'right' hire than to rush into a 'mediocre' hire.

You should have been alarmed after the MSU game when AU had a dysfunctional coaching staff with a paranoid HC and a know-nothing AD—see no evil, hear no evil, know no evil.
Now, after cleaning the whole house out, except for the AD, it will take time to assemble a complete staff. AU will lose some recruits that were attached to assistant coaches. But, they will recover and march on. There are more out recruiting than just the HC, DC, co-DC. It has been made known that 2 or 3 football administrative staff guys are also out recruiting because of the shortage.
