A sure thing

  • In recruiting we all know that nothing is a sure thing, with the talk of Lawson possibily decommitting and foster and liner going elsewhere should we really be surprised? These are kids, it's a what have you done for me lately world, if we can hold on to a few it would be great but this staff needs time to gel with these kids and the window isn't that big and other teams are jumping on the opportunity that the program is trying to come out if dissary and exploting that fact, no matter how good of a staff is a month to 2 months isn't enough to get things going. We will pay for the year we had by not getting as good a class as we are in need of but the years to come should be better.

  • Also matters to actually have coaches who know how to develop. That is what I want to see the most out of this new staff. It was nice and all to have these highly ranked classes, but the talent has gone nowhere and led us to where it is now. I am hoping they end up at Auburn, but the current players need direction, development, and a morale boost going into Spring while prepping for next season.

  • Dang Obie you had jadennis so tongue tied he edited his post three times and settled for the "nm".

What you say is true. We will definitely have to endure what last season bestowed upon us. But as always we will be back, only time will tell how soon that might be.

  • Nice post. I agree. The way I look at it if we hold onto our quarterback commit in JJ and hold onto an immediate impact player on the DL, at MLB, and in the defensive backfield then we are doing just fine considering the points you made obie. I don't care if those players are out of HS or JUCO as long as they are impact players from game 1 this fall.

This staff will clearly fill out the rest of the slots adequately.

  • Mostly agree.

Not many schools go through a complete overhaul of coaches 2 months until NSD, and still hiring assistants within weeks of NSD, and sign top 10 classes.

Any other year after a coaching change, we would be thrilled with a shot at a Top 10 class in this same situation.

This is an unusual situation, where it just so happens some of the best (maybe the best 2 prospects in the country-Lawson&Foster) happened to be fully committed to play for Auburn and Auburns old staff. The old staff could recruit the hell out of some guys, just couldn't keep them motivated and couldn't develop them to the max.

Honestly it's going to hurt losing a few of these guys, it already has, losing Trey and Reuben (for the time being), however if we are able to hold onto a couple of those guys, it will be the best cherry you could add onto what I now view as a top notch staff at this point.

Obie you could be a genius, but probably not. Is that your new softshoe approach to saying we have lost our recruiting class and we are doomed? It will shake out the way it will shake out not just for AU, but for everyone. It ain't done until they sign on signing day. We are still in position to salvage a pretty damn good class. Don't underestimate this staff Obie you might get vaporized.
