A Nike Future?

First off, and I am sure you know this, but if you get a uniform deal.....it's the same manufacturer for all sports. They don't come in and just get basketball or football. They get all sports. The only way around that is to not be a school sponsored sport.

Second. So now we are so bad that it must be the clothes we wear or shoes we tie up?? Come on guys. It's a lot easier than that. Shoes don't make one a better basketball player. But coaching can sure help. Uniforms looking good does not make you better...but coaching does.

Does anyone here question the fact that Coach K could win with a team wearing dolphin outfits???

Stop looking so hard for excuses and look to the real problem.

not true because baylor football is nike and baylor basketball is addidas

the issue is not what is worn, it is being able to recruit at the camps. Which we are not allowed to do. So now not only are we one of a minority but we also have to battle Nike guiding recruits to schols which use Nike gear.

  • Ya' know.... I just dont buy the whole shoe thing. I just dont think Barbee can judge talent.

Well, I take that back, if we had Flubber shoes, then Chubb could get a rebound... so in that limited way, shoes matter. As it is, he's rooted to the ground in a time honored, Toomers' Oaks fashion.

THAT he plays at all, tells me that we are not recruiting the right kids. I see absolutely nothing that makes me think that next year will be better. CTB played what he thought were the best players on his team. They played hard. At times they defended well. But mostly they shot so poorly, that it just didn't matter how good they played defensively. Through it all, Chubb was the best inside guy we had..... that's a bad, bad sign.

He probably gets one more year, to play the string out. If we double the number of league wins, next season, which would still be pathetic, jacobs probably gives CTB a nine year extension on his contract and a $2 Mill bonus.

It's pouring rain, cold, depressing..... fits my mood about the state of AU sports.

  • One of the best coaches I had in high school always told the team "you look good, you play good"

  • To use Nike vs UnderArmour as an excuse for Auburn's pathetic basketball effort is ridiculous. As someone previously mentioned, Adidas has several top 25 basketball teams under contract. I live in South Carolina, and am very familiar with AAU basketball and the camp scene. One of the state's top prospects (rated in top 30 nationally), attended several Nike Camps this past summer and guess where he signed - South Carolina - an UnderArmour school! No one FORCED him to sign with a Nike school. He signed with South Carolina for a very simple reason. He grew up a gamecock fan and wanted his family and friends to be able to attend games. WOW!! Hard to believe isn't it! Getting a top kid from your home state to play for your school so people he knows can watch him play. Are there no good basketball players within a 100 mile radius of Auburn that are worthy of recruiting! Oh well, maybe the next kid from Chicago,or Missouri,or California will pan out. Oh yea, back to the Nike thing. Those kids that attend those camps are usually top players in the country. They tend to end up at Duke, NC, Kentucky, Indiana, etc. NOT Auburn. To finish, I am an Auburn grad who wants to see this thing turned around.
